On behalf of our residents, welcome to the Village
of Coxsackie!
Coxsackie was founded in the 1600’s and in 1775
signed its own Declaration of Independence.
That independence and drive to do things on its
own continues to this day. Our symbol is an Owl
and Coxsackie is “Hoot of the Owl” named by the
Indians who settled here. On summer nights you
can hear them calling throughout the Village.
Coxsackie is experiencing a renaissance, with
people relocating to here, a renovated park, new
restaurants, an event center and a hotel in mid-
2022 all in the downtown waterfront area.
We continue to maintain our Village as safe,
friendly and family minded community and
maintain our small-town charm.

Welcome to the Village of Athens, Greene
County, New York’s first incorporated village!
Initially settled in the late 17th century, the
Village of Athens sits on the west bank of the
Hudson River, directly across from the city of
Hudson. Historically, our village was a thriving
hub for shipbuilding, brick making, ice
harvesting and pottery.
Today, the Village of Athens boasts historic
charm and architecture, an award-winning craft
brewery and a boutique hotel with riverfront
dining. Take a stroll through our historic district
and you’ll find a vibrant, yet peaceful village.
Our cultural center always has top-notch art
on display and here you can shop for antiques,
wine and spirits and gourmet goods
without ever starting your car. Our Riverfront
Park, once the site of the Kadin Brothers pocketbook
factory, is the perfect place to relax
with a picnic and snap some photos of the
Hudson-Athens Lighthouse. And on summer
Fridays, it comes to life with our acclaimed
concert series.
In 2020, the Village of Athens was designated
a “Tree City” by the Arbor Day Foundation and
we’re proud of our laid-back, parklike
atmosphere and our strong
sense of community. I invite
