WOOLSTON ROVERS ‘A’ 18 CROSFIELDS ‘A’ 4
NWML 20/08/2022
Woolston Rovers ‘A’ produced an excellent performance to claim a thoroughly deserved ‘derby’
victory over Crosfields ‘A’ in the NWML Division Three at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk
Sports Club to move above their local rivals into third place in the league table.
Rovers opened the scoring just before the midway point of the half when loose forward Cameron
Davies broke through the line to score. Scrum half Jay-Jay Catterall converted and then three
minutes later Crosfields had substitute Matthew Webber sin binned for punching and then three
minutes before the break loose forward Sam Hickey was also yellow carded for throwing a punch.
Right on the stroke of half time Rovers took advantage of the extra man when a loose pass was
collected by Rovers second row Sam Vernon and he raced sixty metres unchallenged to score
under the posts. Catterall converted to give his side a 12-0 interval advantage.
Seven minutes into the second half Crosfields got on the scoreboard when winger Reid Carty
scored in the corner following a penalty but then just before the hour mark Rovers hooker Ben
Kenwright stole the ball in a one-on-one tackle and scored under the posts. Catterall added the
conversion and that proved to be the final scoring act of the game as Rovers claimed a very good
18-4 win to continue their fine recent run of results.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers hooker Ben Kenwright. He was very well supported
by stand off James Lawrie and prop forward Ryan Palin. Best for Soap were prop forward Ian
Boden, scrum half David Manfredi and winger Reid Carty.
