A word of Welcome
It is such a wonderful moment that we are
here again after a break of 2 years. It has
been such a difficult time Since the last
Gospel Music Rally (GMR); memories of
Covid-19 are very fresh with us. We share
in the grief of all those who lost dear ones
and we thank God for those who survived
(those actually got Covid and were healed
and those who did not get infected).
The one clear message we get from the
pandemic is that God is still in control.
equally thankful for the team of the other
Cathedral Staff.
The theme for today’s GMR is, Living for
God's Glory based on St. Paul’s first letter
1 Corinthians 10:31.
We welcome all of you for honoring our
invitation.
We welcome the team of Cathedral clergy.
All of them, except Reverend Samuel
Muwonge, are attending GMR for the first
time. They were posted here after the last
GMR but before this one. We salute our
Dean, The Very Reverend Canon Jonathan
Kisawuzi Salongo, our Vicar, Reverend
Abraham Muyinda, Assistant Vicar,
Reverend Joseph Luvumu, Reverend Kezia
Nakkazi, Reverend Agnes Semwanga
and Reverend Samuel Muwonge. We are
to renew our lives and draw
ever closer to His throne of
grace.
Edward Sembajwe
Music Rally 2022
What an amazing day and
what a fantastic opportunity
for us all to come together
after 2 years of COVID-19 to
share in praise and worship.
We welcome you one and all
... with open arms, a smile and
fellowship to the 16th edition
of GMR.
We appreciate the trainers,
members of the worship team
and the GMR totos who have
dedicated time to rehearse
and prepare for this event.
A special thank you to
everyone for the financial
contributions towards this
year’s event.
Thank you for sharing today
with us - I hope that the
fellowship and love that you
with us will continue to echo in
your lives in the days and years
that lie ahead.
OUR THEME THIS YEAR: LIVING FOR GOD’S GLORY [1 CORINTHIANS 10:31]
tongues and competing voices (chapter
14);denials of the resurrection of Jesus and
of Christians (15:1–58) and others.
The church was full of proud leaders
and followers. There was a lot of sexual
immorality. Spiritual gifts were being
used improperly, and there was rampant
misunderstanding of key Christian
doctrines.
Bringing Paul’s message home
This exposition has been written by Stephen
Ssendikaddiwa
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whatever you do, do it
all for the glory of God.
Understanding The Context
A few years after Paul established a
Church in the city of Corinth, the church
started developing problems. Divisions
among leaders (1:10–4:21; 16:10–18); incest
(5:1–13); prostitution (6:12–21); marriage
and remarriage (7:25–40); idolatry (8:1–
11:1); concerns about women praying and
prophesying in immodest ways (11:2–
16); chaos in worship, with speaking in
The situation in our country today is not
any different from what was happening in
Corinth at that time. We have a number of
a number of churches whose teachings
have brought their congregation into total
confusion.
Where is the solution? - Paul’s
instruction to Corinth
Although in this particular part of the
letter, Paul was addressing questions
regarding eating food that was considered
unclean, the main focus is not on the
food. It is about how we exercise our
Christian liberties. Paul tells us that we
should practice godliness in our conduct.
First, our conduct should glorify God (1
Corinthians 10:31). Second, we should
consider the impact on others before we
act (1 Corinthians 10:23-24), including on
non-believers and on the church of God (1
Corinthians 10:32).
THE GMR STORY
About Us
GMR is a musical ministry event that started at
St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe in 2006 with the
aim of raising the quality of faith in our members
through participatory praise and worship. We
invite Christians to participate in the singing
and dancing. GMR is an event and not a musical
group. Membership is not permanent as each
year invitations are made publicly and willing
participants sign up. This year we are grateful to the
Lord for the 16 years of music ministry
