Sheep<br />

Australia is the largest producer of wool in the<br />

world, with millions of sheep shorn across the<br />

country every year. The best of the best head to<br />

the <strong>Melbourne</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Show</strong> to compete for the<br />

coveted blue ribbons. Heritage Sheep Australia<br />

will be celebrating 20 years and you will be able<br />

to see the fleece on display throughout the<br />

<strong>Show</strong>. This year the sheep feature breed is the<br />

Corriedale, a sweet-natured breed renowned<br />

for its fleece and lamb rearing. Head to the<br />

Kubota Australia Livestock Pavilion to see them<br />

on the first day of the <strong>Show</strong>.<br />

Dairy<br />

The <strong>Melbourne</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Show</strong><br />

plays host to some of<br />

Victoria’s best dairy cattle.<br />

Meet the dairy farmers to<br />

learn about their milkers and<br />

life on a dairy farm. Dairy<br />

judging and the Dairy Youth<br />

Handlers Classic is September<br />

23-24 in the Kubota Australia<br />

Livestock Pavilion.<br />

Poultry<br />

The <strong>Melbourne</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> Poultry<br />

Competition presented by<br />

Petcover is back for the full<br />

11 days of the <strong>Show</strong> in a dedicated<br />

pavilion. Pat a chook at the<br />

entrance and wander around<br />

more than 900 chickens, ducks,<br />

game birds and turkeys. These are<br />

the fanciest birds in Victoria!<br />

Don’t miss the school poultry<br />

competition, where each school<br />

is judged on poultry knowledge,<br />

their poster display and egg laying<br />

capacity over the 11-day period.<br />

Both professionals and<br />

backyard enthusiasts can enjoy<br />

displays for poultry husbandry<br />

and feed, and an information<br />

booth operated by the Victorian<br />

Poultry Fanciers Association.<br />

Alpacas<br />

It’s an alpaca party as the<br />

competition celebrates<br />

30 years in <strong>2022</strong>!<br />

The alpacas are back<br />

in the Kubota Australia<br />

Livestock Pavilion and the<br />

competition will be hot<br />

as more than 100 alpacas<br />

compete for the blue ribbons<br />

and the title of Champion.<br />

to these cuddly, big-eyed<br />

creatures, watch the paraders’<br />

competition and find out more<br />

about them at the 30-year<br />

celebration display.<br />
