Na Fir-chlis - New battle of the bands-style event
seeks out emerging talent launched in Highlands
Members of the public are invited to choose
their favourite acts in a new music contest
that will showcase emerging musical talent
in the Highlands.
Na Fir-chlis, or Northern Lights, is a battle of the bands-style event
organised by SEALL, the performing arts promotion charity based on the
Isle of Skye.
The contest is open to non-professional emerging musicians of any
musical genre, bands and solo artists who live in the Highlands and who
are looking for a chance to be fast-tracked into the limelight by playing at
some of Scotland’s best music festivals in 2023.
Entrants are asked to submit their best track, in audio or video format, by
30 September. The public vote, which will be held by online poll, opens on
7 October and closes on 21 October.
The best five shortlisted will be announced on 22 October and the live
battle will take place before a judging panel at a public event in Seumas’
Bar, Sligachan Hotel, on Friday, 4 November at 7.30pm.
The winner will be announced on the evening and will be awarded the
prize of playing before the crowds at musical festivals around Scotland in
2023.
There is no entry fee and SEALL will give each shortlisted act £250
towards the costs of travel and accommodation to the 4 November event.
Sara Bain, SEALL’s interim director, said: “We are really excited to be
putting on Na Fir-chlis and seeing what’s out there. We know there’s a lot
of excellent musical talent in the Highlands and this is a chance for us to
find it and show it off to the world.
“We have a number of festivals already on board, including
Knockengorroch in Dumfries and Galloway and our own Skye Live. We will
add to the list over the coming weeks.
“This is an exceptional and rare opportunity for non-professional acts and
solo artists to progress into the big festival line-ups and we are hoping
the public will come out and lend their support to their favourites by
voting for them and coming along to Seumas’ Bar on 4 November to
cheer them on.
“We will open the public vote on 7 October, so please keep track of us on
social media @sealleventsskye to access the poll.”
