Sucks
PDFs are good for small print jobs, such as
leaflets and notices, as well as fill-in forms
online; but Newsletters? Do not use PDFs to
present content that could and should be on a
web page or in the form of a digital booklet.

Long Files Longeurs
The PDF Roll-Out
British TV viewers know what comes next: the puppy rolls the
toilet roll downstairs. Long PDFs are like stair carpet or runaway
loo rolls. Keep them dawgies scrollin' ...
Worse, PDF newsletter perpetrators often produced multi-column
pages which obliged persons reading online to scroll down up
down up down. The layout and design of their offerings
resembled 1950's business letters, even when created by the latest
hi-tech - a 1950's electric typewriter.
Such authors never grasped the fundamentals of word processing
or desktop publishing, let alone layout and design.
We go the trouble of writing the stuff, then all the mangy
muggles have to do is read it! They should be grateful.

Platform
How are readers reading your PDF?
Although your standard PDF may read
on a desktop, how does it look on a
laptop or tablet or mobile phone?
There is a good chance that you won't
see a lot on a smartphone.
PDFs are limited. You can’t embed a video or audio
file in a PDF. You can’t have animations in a PDF.
Nor can you serve interactive forms or other elements.
PDFs tie one hand behind your back when it comes to
creating engaging, interactive, media-rich content.
Check out HTML Newsletters: these are the kind of email
newsletters that you send from Mailchimp for example.
