My main mantra is to “try everything”. Although<br />

stepping outside your comfort zone can be scary,<br />

it can also be fun. The time when I became a<br />

freshman at HKU was unfortunately when the<br />

pandemic first began. Understandably, the<br />

pandemic has caught most universities off-guard<br />

which resulted in many orientation programmes<br />

being cancelled. For this reason, my learning<br />

process was one that lacked guidance and I<br />

struggled during the transition from being a high<br />

school student to a freshman. Fortunately, I soon<br />

met my close-knit circle of friends by actively<br />

reaching out in lectures and tutorials. From<br />

supporting each other academically to hanging out<br />

and playing board games, we navigate through<br />

the uncertainties and rise to the challenges<br />

together. To my fellow cohorts— do not worry too<br />

much about university and enjoy your high school<br />

life while you can!<br />

Hello <strong>CKY</strong>! I am Lucia Yeung from Class of 2020 and am<br />

studying for a Bachelor of Laws in HKU. It is no doubt<br />

that the pandemic has affected every community across<br />

the planet. The difficulties and frustrations that have<br />

been felt at times over the switch to online have<br />

reminded us of the value and pleasure of face-to-face<br />

teaching and learning, which we used to take for granted.<br />

Although university lectures and tutorials were conducted<br />

virtually, I find it to be fruitful as I had the opportunity to<br />

engage with professors and tutors on different legal<br />

topics. For example, in studying criminal law, we often<br />

debated whether alcohol-induced hallucinosis due to the<br />

sudden cession of drugs should be treated on par with<br />

intoxication in Hong Kong. Besides law, I have also<br />

found my course about entrepreneurship to be<br />

rewarding. I had the opportunity to interact with small<br />

businesses discussing the problems they face amid the<br />

pandemic. Participating in a case competition with my<br />

teammates was also an eye-opening experience as they<br />

frequently offered innovative arguments and new ways to<br />

approach the business problem.<br />
