Celebrations launch<br />

with Festive Friday<br />

<strong>Truro</strong>’s Christmas Lights will be switchedon<br />

as part of Festive Friday which takes<br />

place on 18th <strong>November</strong> this year. Festive<br />

Friday is sponsored by Great Western<br />

Railway and brought to you by <strong>Truro</strong> BID,<br />

in partnership with <strong>Truro</strong> City Council and<br />

Pirate FM.<br />

To build up to the Christmas Lights Switch-on,<br />

Pirate FM’s Johnny Cowling and Lucy Start<br />

will be in <strong>Truro</strong> from 3pm, and at 5pm there’ll<br />

be entertainment from the stage in Boscawen<br />

Street organised by Hall for Cornwall. At 7pm<br />

Johnny Cowling, <strong>Truro</strong>’s Town Crier and other<br />

guests will switch-on the city centre Christmas<br />

Lights.<br />

Following the switch-on, there will be a<br />

celebratory parade around the city featuring<br />

performers, music and Father Christmas.<br />

This year’s Festive Friday parade is inspired<br />

by Treasure Island, Hall for Cornwall’s Family<br />

Christmas Show, so dressing up as pirates is<br />

encouraged!<br />

The Big Festive Shop Small Market, hosted<br />

by Duchy Fairs will be on Lemon Quay until<br />

9pm for Festive Friday, and on Saturday<br />

19th <strong>November</strong>, with gift ideas from over<br />

60 independent traders.<br />

From 23rd <strong>November</strong> five Late Night Shopping<br />

Wednesdays are taking place giving plenty of<br />

opportunities to shop for gifts at <strong>Truro</strong>’s<br />

independent and high street stores, enjoy<br />

the city’s eateries after dark, and soak up the<br />

festive atmosphere.<br />

<strong>Truro</strong> Farmers Market’s BIG Christmas<br />

Market will be open until 9pm for Late Night<br />

Shopping Wednesdays in <strong>December</strong>. Find<br />

them on Lemon Quay on selected dates from<br />

2nd <strong>December</strong> until Christmas offering local<br />

produce, street food, gift ideas and live<br />

entertainment.<br />

Festive Facts<br />

• <strong>Truro</strong>’s Christmas Lights are funded and<br />

installed by <strong>Truro</strong> BID each year, thanks to the<br />

380 or so <strong>Truro</strong> Businesses who pay the BID<br />

levy.<br />

• Town Crier, Lionel Knight and his wife Carol<br />

have supported both the city and <strong>Truro</strong> BID by<br />

giving past donations to improve the Christmas<br />

Lights, including the Angel Lights.<br />

• <strong>Truro</strong> BID have been busy delivering reindeer<br />

shaped Christmas lights to local businesses so<br />

that illuminated reindeer will be decorating<br />

over 80 of the high street’s windows from 18th<br />

<strong>November</strong>.<br />
