AN INTERVIEW WITH ROWNITA MARSTO 12 WOMENS WEEKEND OF SPORT // NOVEMBER 2022
We’ve been looking forward to playing here today for ages. The whole squad have been counting down to it. N It’s been a whole month since we last played a game, so today is just going to be fantastic to get a run out and play the game we all love in front of a fantastic crowd at Ashton Gate. It’s an amazing achievement to be able to have this Women’s Weekend of Sport. For us to be playing today and the Robins tomorrow, I don’t see any other team doing that in the league. To be able to do this off the back of the success of the Lioness in the summer and the Rugby World Cup that just took place in New Zealand, shows that we’re going in the right direction. It shows that women’s sport is continuously growing, and we’ve seen that from those two events with sold out stadiums at both finals. We hope we inspire the next generation of rugby stars; little girls, little boys…anyone. Maybe you’ve never picked up a rugby ball before, but this might encourage you to. There are so many teams in and around Bristol that have fantastic pathways, we hope we can inspire at least one person to pick up a rugby ball and get into the sport. What you can expect from us today is a fast, slick, precise and aggressive game. That’s the style of rugby we’ve been playing in the Allianz Cup and we hope to continue that in the Premier 15s. We’ve had that extra month to prepare ourselves even more, so I’m excited to show the fans today what we’ve been working on. Our opponents here today have nothing to lose, we can expect a bit of attitude from them. They have obviously been in a difficult situation, so they’ll be looking forward to playing and will be raring to go, just like we are. It’ll be a really good battle. From behalf of myself and the whole team we would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has come here to support us today. We appreciate you buying tickets and spending your Saturday watching us, especially those who have never watched rugby before. I have a few of my old teachers here supporting me.
