WE FIND
OUR
INSPIRATION
IN NATURE

SEMA PHILOSOPHY
BUILDING RESPONSIBLY
Preserving time-honoured traditions while
forging new paths. Building on our own
strengths while continuing to develop
them. Here at SEMA, we don't believe in
“either/or”. We think and act according to
the principle of “both/and”. That's why we
also combine apparent contrasts. The
result: Solutions that work in terms of
implementation, efficiency and sustainability.
That way, both people and nature
benefit.

UPHOLDING TRADITION
SHAPING THE FUTURE
COMPETENCE
IS THE BASIS
THE PLANNING PROCESS THEN:
LABORIOUS AND TIME-CONSUMING
MANUAL WORK
We are experts and we love what we do. That's why we have been
so successful in everything we have achieved since we were
founded in 1984. As a leading developer and provider of software
solutions and additional services in timber construction, stair
design and sheet metal work, we know exactly what matters to our
customers. That's why we make every single project a personal
priority and only rest when our customer is fully satisfied.

SEMA PHILOSOPHY
THE PLANNING PROCESS NOW:
ANYTHING AT ANY TIME, THANKS
TO THE LATEST SOFTWARE
INNOVATION PROVIDES
LONG-TERM SECURITY
Customers in 54 countries trust in our 3D CAD/CAM software,
available in 11 languages. Among them are crafts and trades,
industrial companies and planning offices, as well as associations
and educational institutions. And because innovation is in our
DNA, we invest around 15% of our annual turnover in the further
development of our SEMA software, to make the lives of
customers around the world easier.

construction, stair design or facade & metal cladding: The intuitive
2D/3D software from SEMA is the ideal design and construction
tool for all your building projects.
TIMBER CONSTRUCTION
Where previously, there was a lack of project overview and
complex processes needed to be laboriously managed, today
everything interlocks seamlessly. As a result, every detail can be
individually designed and transparently displayed. This ensures
maximum security, speed and efficiency throughout the design
process.
We are constantly developing our software further to keep up with
the growing needs of our customers. That's why we release an
update twice a year. There is no safer investment.

ALL THE BENEFITS
AT A GLANCE
The visualisation and program layout are
based on the work methods of craftsmen.
A pre-defined master data system guarantees
efficient planning processes and can
be individually adjusted by the user. All
designs automatically take place in 2D and
3D – saving plenty of time, especially when
making changes.
Whether it's a one-man business or a prefabricated
housing company: Thanks to its
module structure and integrated master
data system technology, SEMA software
perfectly adapts to special requirements.
As a result, simple solutions are just as
easily possible as the management of
complex process chains or connection to
all conventional CNC machines on the
market.
Strong partnerships guarantee simple and
open exchange of data with other
programs for structural analysis and
building services, or with theodolites/3D
laser scanners during digital measuring.
Unique features: The 3D point clouds
generated with a 3D laser scanner can be
directly input into the software and further
processed.
»ON THE CONSTRUCTION
SITE AND IN THE OFFICE:
GOOD RESULTS NEED
CLEVER IDEAS,
RAPIDLY IMPLEMENTED
A construction site in the south-west.
Carpenter Dylan Williams talks to the
client about making changes to a complex
roof construction. The experienced
tradesman suddenly had an idea, which he
sketches on the spot. The client is
impressed: “Yes, that's exactly what I want!
How long would it take?” Where in the
past, a lot of time would have been
needed for the survey, planning and
construction, as well as determining the
materials and costs, today Dylan Williams
can do all that in an instant.
The digitalisation of the data in connection
with simple and efficient software tools
reliably and transparently shows every
single process step. And when everything
has been planned according to customer
preferences, it can progress immediately
to the professional implementation. The
benefits are not only tangible for carpentry
businesses, but also for the prefabricated
housing industry, and service providers like
planning offices and joinery workshops,
as well as schools and educational
institutions.
ALL THE BENEFITS
AT A GLANCE
Using SEMA software, all kind of ground
plans and roof designs can be planned,
visualised and constructively implemented
in any material. An input wizard,
adjustable master data, material and
fastener databases, as well as a practiceorientated
operating concept guarantee
quick and professional results.
Accurately dimensioned plans are
generated from selected cross-sections or
views of the three-dimensional building
model. The same applies for individual
components and entire element plans.
The SEMA software calculates all the
relevant measuring data and material
quantities to create a quotation and order
at the touch of a button.
The transfer of data to CNC-controlled
machines is another key feature. As the
developer of the first control to a
Hundegger joinery machine and jointfounder
of the CMP data interface, SEMA
knows what counts. To meet the constantly
growing needs of our customers, the
SEMA software can control the machines
of all the relevant manufacturers on the
market.
A DREAM AND ITS REALISATION
STAIR DESIGN
Mr Smith has bought a house and wants to
replace its old staircase. He asks stair
builder, Thomas King, for a consultation.
Thomas King designs several different
staircase types in the form of a 3D model
on his laptop at Mr Smith's kitchen table.
In a few easy steps, different wood and
railing designs are adapted to the
customer's preference and visualised in
the software. The Smiths are impressed
and place an order. The next step is the
accurate laser measurement of the
existing structure with automatic data
transfer to the software. After that, the
project is planned in detail.
For the production, Thomas King instantly
supplies the data to a CNC machine, or
plots all the components for manual
production using automated 1:1 templates.
Either way: The Smith family are
looking forward to the imminent installation
date.
Both small joinery workshops and large
industrial companies benefit from our
single-source solution. Whether it's an
artistic, one-off design or industrial production,
a renovation or a new construction:
everything is possible.
SEMA SOFTWARE STAIR DESIGN
PLANNING
Any stair design or construction is possible
– whether it's in wood, steel, glass or
stone. The construction can take place
based on existing CAD plans or polylines.
A direct survey with 3D laser measurement
makes subsequent editing on the
computer significantly easier. Together
with free drawing in CAD and the
construction in both 2D and 3D, with
individually adjustable master data,
everything is quick to be completed.
VISUALISATION
Eprofessional visualisation has always
played an important role at SEMA –
starting with a standard view, all the way
through to a visualised 3D view in the
browser. Different component views and
overall views can be generated to assist
with planning control and drawing.
Whether it's photorealistic illustrations,
cross-sections, exploded drawings or
plans – anything can be created in an
instant.
Production
As well as generating 1:1 production-ready
plans and lists, the fully automated CNC
production of staircases with SEMA
connect is a real multitalent. The program
can be connected to any CNC machine.
The spectrum ranges from multi-sided
machining to interpolating 5-axis milling.
While doing so, the 3D CNC simulation
ensures maximum reliability of the
production process, and can influence the
automatically generated NC programs at
any time.
MALLEABLE: SUCCESS
IS MADE OF METAL.«
IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT
The management board of an international
company decides: A new company
headquarters will be built in central Berlin.
Confident, functional, modern. The
facade has to signal a passion for innovation
from afar. The basis is an old factory
building. A large, established metalworking
company is invited to a preliminary
meeting. The experienced team
immediately develops the first ideas
regarding possible materials, shapes and
colours. Various 3D models are projected
onto the wall with a projector to show what
the final facade of the building might look
like. The management board is impressed,
and commissions the metalworking
company with the design and
execution of an innovative building
envelope. The latest technology, in the
form of a laser measurement system, is
used to carry out the survey. Thanks to the
high-precision measurement, concrete
detail planning can start in only a few
days.
SEMA SOFTWARE FACADE&METAL CLADDING
PLANNING
A professional 2D/3D design saves a lot of
time and resources. The required materials
are quickly determined via automatically
generated parts and order lists, all of
which are available immediately on
demand. In addition, a higher degree of
prefabrication is possible, which enables
shorter assembly times on the property.
VISUALISATION
It is proven that a realistic visualisation at
the quotation stage makes a professional
first impression. Cross-sections views or
exploded drawings to show details are
quick and easy to create. In summary: With
a realistic visualisation, you will leave
competitors in the dust, impress customers
and architects, and easily generate orders.
INTERFACES
The optional export of data to MS Office
programme offers decisive benefits. For
example, the further processing of data for
calculations and quotations. The BIMcompatibility
of SEMA enables the
exchange of data with other CAD programme
based on commonplace 3D file
formats. In addition, it offers interfaces to
FROM 3D LASER
MEASUREMENT
TO A CAD MODEL
INVENTORY OF THE BUILDING STRUCTURE MADE EASY
SEMA introduces new standards in the
processing of digital 3D data and its
implementation in CAD software. The 3D
images created with a laser scanner are
imported directly into the SEMA software
as a point cloud. The 3D models form the
perfect basis for renovation plans or work
on existing structures. Vertical/horizontal
sections can be created immediately in
the programme and all relevant survey
points can be identified quickly and easily.
By using point clouds directly in the SEMA
programme, a high level of planning
accuracy is achieved. The result is a digital
survey of the entire construction site, i.e.
the entire existing building fabric, which is
available as a millimetre-accurate 3D
model for planning purposes. This type of
surveying on the construction site means
that no dimensions are forgotten and
there are no nasty surprises, as in the past,
during assembly on the construction site!
Even today many cross-discipline planning
processes are embedded in the SEMA
software and can be implemented without
any external data exchange. From the
initial draft plan to machine control - SEMA
has incorporated the fields "Timber
Construction", "Stair Design" and
“Facade & Metal Cladding" into a unique
software suite.
U Benefit: No interface – no data loss
Office organisation and calculations or
Structural Analysis are only two examples
of how data exchange already goes far
beyond the term “interface”. The data of
the individual software components are
directly coupled.
