WELCOME LETTER
They always say time
changes things, but you
actually have to
change them yourself.
-Andy Warhol
I have to admit, it stings a bit every time I watch one of those insurance
commercials with Dr. Rick. Yes, apparently, I am turning into my
parents. I leave my phone number twice when I leave a voice mail. I still
have a landline. I pack water and munchies when I go to the movies….I
could go on, but you get the point.
Well one more example…as I was researching mattresses for our
“Supporting Your Sleep” feature, I matter-of-factly told my coworker
how old my own mattress was. Her look conveyed a mix between shock
and disgust. But in my defense…I am sleeping perfectly well, mattresses
can be expensive, and on a green note, it’s one less thing going to the
dump.
Although those excuses could be covering up the root cause—I grew
up with parents who didn’t throw things away. Bath towels and dish
cloths hung around in drawers for decades. Our kitchen cabinets were
original to the home. Lamps were outfitted with 60-watt incandescent
bulbs and served as a source of light…not mood.
Whether the push is from Dr. Rick or the new year, it might just be
time to freshen up our homes with items that make us happy and more
comfortable. Is it time for that new mattress? A kitchen update? Need
help making sense of today’s confusing array of light bulbs? Or would
you like to tap in to your home’s unused space? Regardless of your goal,
this issue of Housetrends has it covered.
It’s a new year, and you’re a new generation. It’s time to celebrate
change.
Thanks for reading.
