A FRESH START

The Ford Puma isn’t a new venture

for Ford, way back in the late 90s,

Ford released its first Puma, a small

coupé, and even though it looked

good and was a nice drive, it didn’t

sell very well compared to other cars

at the time. Fast forward a couple

of decades, Ford have decided to

take another shot at the Puma and

morphed it into a small SUV.

THE LOOKS

If you’re anything like us here at LMC, then you’ll instantly fall in love with the looks

of the Ford Puma. From its smooth sleek lines, to its feisty looking front, the Puma

holds nothing back when it comes to looks. When compared to its class rivals, the

Puma is a lot more sporty looking, which does give it a visual edge.

THE TRIMS AND ENGINES

While we’re on the subject of looks, let’s mention the four main trims for the Puma

- entry-level Titanium, sportier looking ST-Line and ST-Line X, and the luxurious

ST-Line Vignale. And, as this is a Ford, keep a look out for special edition versions

that often have different equipment, style and performance attached to them.

Wondering about the different available engines? Of course you are - there are

two different engine options available, the 1.0 Ecoboost mHEV 125 and the 1.0

Ecoboost mHEV 155. Whichever engine you choose, they are both 1.0-litre petrols

with 48-volt mild-hybrid (mHEV) technology - meaning, they have that famous

fuel saving start/stop feature.

THE INTERIOR

Sure, the Puma looks good, it drives good, but how is the quality of the interior? We’re

pleased to report that it passes our judgmental eye. Whichever trim you choose, the

Puma comes with adjustable lumbar support and seat-height adjustment, making

your longer journeys as back pain free as possible. Throughout, the interior feels

solid and high-quality. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on the rangetopping

ST-Line Vignale, then you can expect full-leather seats throughout. In

terms of space, you and your passengers have plenty of it - you won’t find many

small SUVs that upstage the Puma in this regard.

RIDE COMFORT

In terms of comfort, the Puma’s suspension is smooth when driving along most

road surfaces. Even on the harshest of road surfaces, we didn’t particularly notice

any hard lumps or bumps on our drives. One of the leading cars on our roads

when it comes to ride comfort is the amazing Volkswagen T-Roc, but the Puma

does manage to stand side by side with ease.

THE TECH

All Pumas come with an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system that includes

DAB radio, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and

smartphone mirroring. As a whole, the 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system

performs extremely well and is a lot easier to use than those found in some rivals.

You’ll be pleased to hear that no matter the trim you choose, you’ll be getting

rear parking sensors. Meanwhile, if you buy the range-topping ST-Line Vignale,

you’ll also get front parking sensors, too. A rear parking camera is available as an

option.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Whatever a review says, it’s important to make your own mind up when buying

your next car by taking it for a test drive. That being said, we can’t recommend the

Ford Puma enough if you’re looking for a great stylish small SUV that won’t let you

down. Whichever trim you decide to go with, you won’t be disappointed.

F1 - THE SEASON AHEAD

CATCHING RED BULL

It comes as no secret, or surprise, that both Ferrari and Mercedes have been playing

catch up with Red Bull over the past couple of years - after suffering defeat after

defeat, both teams are now hungrier than ever to grab that championship title.

In 2022, Ferrari started out strong, and throughout the early part of the year, it

looked as if they were onto a winner. Ferrari have recently said ‘goodbye’ to team

principal Mattia Binotto, and ‘hello’ to new team principal ‘Fred Vasseur’ - only time

will tell if that was the right decision or not, but the ex-Alfa Romeo boss has a lot

to prove in 2023. Meanwhile, a lot of eyes are on the struggling Mercedes team -

after a lackluster year in 2022, they must make huge improvements if they are to

compete for the title. Mercedes have the drivers, the experience, but do they have

the car to win 2023? Only time will tell.

VERSTAPPEN’S RACE FOR A THIRD

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Sure, Max Verstappen didn’t have a lot of competition in 2022 after Charles Leclerc

failed to find his rhythm after the summer break, but that doesn’t mean Verstappen

has a guaranteed third world championship title in his reach - a new year means a

new car, which means new challenges. If a seven time world Championship winner

(Lewis Hamilton) can fall off the podium, so can a two world Championship winner.

Whether you’re a fan of Max Verstappen or not, nobody can deny that he is a

talented driver and owned the 2022 season with ease.

VIVA LAS VEGAS

Many years ago, during a press conference, Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo

wished for races in Miami and Vegas - after Miami joined the 2022 race calendar,

it’s now Vegas’ turn. In 2023, the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas joins Formula 1

for the first time. The 14-turn track will run for 3.8 miles (6.12km) with top speeds

of around 212mph (342km/h). Taking place over 50 laps at night in the heart of

downtown, the design features three straights, a high-speed cornering sequence

and a single chicane section - this neon drenched track has a bit of everything. We

cannot wait to watch this one.

SPRINTS, SPRINTS, SPRINTS

If you didn’t know by now, sprints are 100km dashes to the finish line that take place

on Saturdays - not only are points up for grabs, but the sprint results set the grid for

the race, too. In 2023 there are a total of six planned sprint races - Azerbaijan (Baku

City Circuit), Austria (Red Bull Ring), Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps), Qatar (Lusail

Circuit), the United States (Circuit of The Americas) and Sao Paulo (Interlagos).

BRING ON THE ROOKIES

This year, there are three rookies joining Formula 1 full-time - for AlphaTauri, we

have Nyck de Vries (AlphaTauri), for Williams, Logan Sargeant takes a seat, and

for McLaren, Oscar Piastri makes his full-time debut. New drivers on the grid will

always shake things up a bit, and we’re looking forward to what they’re going

to bring to the track throughout the year. Will we have surprise podium or even

victory from a rookie? We hope so.
