News Briefs Inaugural Saranac Lake 3P Race SARANAC LAKE – The first Saranac “Pole- Pedal-Paddle” Race is set for Saturday, March 4. The race features skiing, biking, paddling, and running and is open to individuals and relay teams. Skin or snowshoe up to Mt. Pisgah Ski Area, then ski or snowboard down, then bike to Dewey Mountain Recreation Center to cross-country ski on their groomed trails. Bike to the Saranac River to paddle downstream to the Saranac Lake Fish & Game Club. Finally, run to the finish line at Mt. Pisgah and the post-race celebration. The event is a community celebration of Saranac Lake’s diverse recreational venues and activities. Registration fees cover the lift and trail tickets at Mt. Pisgah and Dewey Mountain and a mandatory pre-race safety meeting will be held the night before the race. The event benefits Saranac Lake Innovative Cycling Kids. Learn more: saranaclake3p.org. Presented by NRS and the FEBRUARY <strong>2<strong>02</strong>3</strong> 5 Northern Forest Canoe Trail, the symposium is a comprehensive weekend of paddling instruction for beginners and intermediates, and includes course tracks for kayaks, pack boats, standup paddleboards and canoes. This year’s headquarters will be located at the Harrietstown Town Hall in downtown Saranac Lake. “The Symposium aims to help paddlers build confidence and hone their skills so they can get the most out of their time on the water,” said Danny Mongno, field marketing manager at NRS and Lake Placid-based paddle<strong>sports</strong> enthusiast. “We offer a fun, safe environment for paddlers to practice their techniques and learn from some world-class instructors.” The Adirondack Paddling Symposium begins on Friday with introductions, meet and greet, gear outfitting, dinner and evening programming. Additional instruction takes place on Saturday and Sunday with optional tours on Monday. This year it includes a “90-Miler Crash Course,” which will cover paddling skills, course management, training, nutrition and team communication. The course will be taught by 90-Miler veterans Andrew Jillings and Brian McDonnell, who will also host an evening presentation about the Adirondack Canoe Classic.
