Pat Lam 

We’re excited to be celebrating International 

Women’s Day here at Ashton Gate. Throughout 

the week we have been celebrating the amazing 

women in Bear Country and we will be showing the 

love for all our female supporters here tonight too. 

We were very proud of the result against Bath last 

week. The lads showed great character to get the 

win and ultimately at this time of the season, it’s 

the result that matters. 

Taking on Saints is exciting - they’re an extremely 

good attacking side and we understand the threat 

they pose. Both teams want to play and it’s going 

to be a great night at Ashton Gate.

In theCommunity 

Last weekend Bristol Bears Women’s side 

teamed up with Bristol and Weston Hospitals 

charity for their match at home against The 

University of Worcester Warriors Women. 

The fixture was the Bears’ thank you to the NHS 

fixture. The charity were at the ground on Saturday 

fundraising and engaging with supporters. 

Megan Watts from the charity spoke to Daisie Mayes 

at half-time about the work the charity does. 

Discover a bit about the impact the charity has in 10 

hospitals in Bristol and Weston: 

Refurbished playroom for Dolphin and Penguin Ward 

at Bristol Children’s Hospital 

Last year, the shared playroom between Dolphin 

and Penguin Ward at Bristol Children’s Hospital was 

refurbished for the first time since the hospital 

opened in 2001. The playroom is now fit for purpose 

and welcoming to all ages. It provides a broader 

selection of activities and is a playroom the 

children “love to spend time in”. 

The new playroom covers 40 inpatients and is used 

for arts and crafts, sensory play, preparation for 

procedures (distraction), as well as a relaxing area 

for older patients in the evenings. It is accessible to 

patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

An MRI scanner for South Bristol Community 

Hospital 

The £1.5million scanner is a highly specialised piece 

of equipment that enables NHS staff to image the 

head and joints in new ways, which better supports 

treatment decisions. 


Club Connexion 

Tell us about the club in 50 words… 

Broad Plain RFC is an inclusive community Rugby 

club housed in BS3. We’re proud to have teams 

representing us from U6s all the way up to 2 Men’s 

teams weekly. We also have a growing Girls section 

and even Walking rugby on Mondays. Welcoming 

new players now. 

What has been the impact of any recent 

engagements with BBCF… 

Our Junior coaches received a great development 

session from one of the Community Coaches and 

it really got the group reflecting on their own style 

and what experience they want to give to their 

players. We’re also really looking forward to our 

Super Sunday session and the Player Development 

camp coming up in Easter. 

How will being part of Club Connexion benefit 

your club… 

It’s given coaches and players access to the Bears 

Community Team who have been always willing to 

support and provide guidance. It’s also, allowed 

some families to take their children to their first 

ever Rugby games through utilising the discounts 

available through the scheme. Lastly, we hope 

it shows our members we are passionate about 

improving ourselves to give our players and 

members a happy and safe space to enjoy rugby.

Bristol Bears U18s were edged out by Leicester Tigers in a physical third/fourth place play-off of the 

Academy U18 League at StoneX Stadium. 

The Cubs fell two scores behind early on but hit back through Aidan Boshoff, collecting Tom Gardner’s 

pinpoint floated pass to go over in the corner. 

Fin Fielder landed the touchline conversion but a third Tigers score before the break gave Tigers a 7-19 halftime 

lead. 

The Cubs began the second half in bright fashion and were rewarded when Gardner powered over from close 

range, with Fielder’s second conversion making it a five-point game heading into the closing stages. 

Going in search of an all-important third try, the Cubs continued to hammer at the Tigers’ door, but it wasn’t 

to be for the young guns, who were forced to settle for fourth place in this season’s competition.
