the season, as we take on West Country rivals 

Gloucester with a spot in next season’s Heineken 

Champions Cup up for grabs. 

With another bumper crowd expected at Ashton 

Gate – more than 20,000 of you – we’re excited to 

sign off the season with a big occasion in front of 

you guys, our incredible supporters. 

Today is also an opportunity for supporters to 

pay tribute to our departing players at our annual 

leavers’ ceremony on the pitch at full-time today. 

These guys, players and coaches, have made 

significant contributions to the club during their 

time here and we look forward to sending them off 

in style. 

We’ve also had the exciting news that we will take 

on the world-famous Barbarians in September, 

so don’t miss out on what promises to be a great 

night.

OLD BRISTOLIAN RUGBY CLUB 

Tell us about the club in 50 words… 

The Old Bristolians Rugby Club was formed in and around 1925 by a teacher and some ex pupils at Bristol 

Grammar School. Nearly 100 years later the club is proud to still run 3 senior menssides and a vets team. 18 

years ago the club started running a minis section which now boasts over 450 members including a growing 

and flourishing girls section. 

What has been the impact of any recent engagements with BBCF… 

OB’s has always had a strong connection with the Bristol Club, today being linked with The Bears helps to 

inspire our youngsters to be good rugby players but also the best young people they can be. 

How will being part of Club Connexion benefit your club… 

OB’s have over 75 mini and junior coaches. Being part of the Club Connexion scheme has helped to develop 

coaching at the club and as such benefitted the young people receiving that coaching. 

Seven Youngster’s Sign Academy Terms for 2023/24 season 

Bristol Bears can confirm that seven U18 Academy players have signed professional terms with the 

club ahead of the 2023/24 season. 

Versatile Wales U18 forward Kenzie Jenkins (Coleg y Cymoedd), who can operate in the second row or back 

row, join the Senior Academy, as do England U18 loosehead prop Louis Trevett and dynamic centre Isaac 

Campbell-Wu (both Clifton College). 

The Bears also welcome England U18 centre Toby Baker, who joins the Bears Senior Academy from the RFU 

Yorkshire Rugby Academy. 

Wing Tom Ormsby (Redland Green School) signs a scholarship agreement, while back row duo Tom Gardner 

and Ollie Thraves take up BUCS Super Rugby pathway deals at Loughborough University. 

BEARSWOMEN 

TikTok Women’s Six Nations Round Up 

Eight Bears players were involved in the final round of the 

TikTok Women’s Six Nations 2023 campaign. 


The Red Roses were crowned Grand Slam Champions in front of a 

record breaking crowd of 58,498, on a sunny Saturday afternoon 

at Twickenham Stadium. 

Sarah Bern and Lark Davies were a part of the starting XV; Bern had 

a solid performance whilst Davies scored in the second half. Reed 

came on in the second half and put her body on the line as part of 

England’s defensive set, which was put to the test by France. 

Gwenllian Pyrs, Kiera Bevan, Elinor Snowsill, Courtney Keight and 

Bryonie King were all involved in Wales’ win over Italy. Bevan 

opened the scoring early on with a penalty. A sublime Snowsill 

offload led to a Alex Callendar break, which ended in Callendar 

scoring. 

Their five-try victory over Italy secured them a consecutive third 

place in the championship and sees them rise to their highest 

ever ranking of sixth in the world.

In the Community 

BBCF Celebration of Sport 

Young boys and girls from across Bristol and the local area enjoyed a fun-filled day of rugby, team building 

and educations activities at the Community Foundation’s Celebration of Sport festival held at Ashton Gate 

stadium. 

The event saw men’s players Joe Joyce, Sam Jeffries and Rich Lane, along with women’s players Holly Phillips, 

Daisie Mayes, Reneeqa Bonner and Tilly Smale drop in to coach, teach and meet the young people at the home 

of Bristol Bears. 

Children from across the foundation’s projects took part: Bright Sparks, Bear in Mind, Spectrum and Project 

Rugby. The day finished with Primary Tag and Corporate TAG matches.
