2. NEW SERIES OF STATE ACCOUNTS STATISTICS

2.1 Changes in GSDP Estimates, by Industry
In this chapter, changes made in the new series in terms of methodology, sources of data used in compilation of
estimates of gross state domestic product by economic activity, have been discussed. The consequential impact in
the estimates of other income aggregates like gross and net State income, per capita income and growth pattern of
macro aggregates have also been discussed.
2.2 Overall Estimates of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
The estimates of GSDP by economic activity for the year 2004-05, according to the new series and the
1999-2000 series, have been presented in Table 1 below. According to this Table, the overall GSDP at factor cost
in the new series for the year 2004-05 is estimated at Rs. 1,66,306 crore as against pervious series estimate of Rs.
1,56,226 crore at current prices for the same year, thereby indicating that the level of GSDP has gone up by Rs.
10,080 crore or 6.45 per cent, in the new series. This overall increase is the net result of upward / downward
revisions in the estimates of various industries. Out of the economic activities, maximum upward revision in GSDP
data is witnessed in ‘Construction’ followed by ‘Forestry’ while major fall in GSDP is in the activities of ‘Agriculture’
and ‘Un-registered Manufacturing’.
� Activities showing increase in the levels of GSDP estimates in the new series: (increase
over old series are shown in brackets)
� Forestry and Logging (Rs. 2,045 crore);
� Mining and Quarrying (Rs. 23 crore);
� Registered Manufacturing (Rs. 1,931 crore);
� Construction (Rs. 3,650 crore);
� Electricity, Gas and Water supply ( Rs. 228 crore);
� Transport by other means (Rs. 1,173 crore);
� Communication (Rs. 113 crore);
� Trade, Hotel and Restaurants (Rs. 996 crore);
� Real Estate, Ownership of Dwellings and Business Services (Rs. 711 crore);
� Public Administration (Rs. 215 crore) and
� Other services (Rs. 265 crore).
� On the other hand, the GSDP in the new series is lower (decrease over old series are shown in
brackets) in the following activities:
� Agriculture (Rs. 1,131 crore);
� Un-registered Manufacturing (Rs. 23 crore);
