ANYTIME/ANYWHERE COURSES Anytime/Anywhere courses offer students the opportunity to learn outside the traditional classroom. The courses are the same courses offered face-to-face, adapted for distance delivery by Kirkwood faculty members. If a course transfers face-to-face, it will transfer in the distance format. Faculty are available to answer questions, host discussion forums, respond to assignments and grade exams. The students best suited for Anytime/Anywhere courses are: • Highly motivated to succeed. • Good managers of their time. • Willing to ask questions of faculty over the phone, through the mail, or via email. • Unable to attend traditional, face-to-face classes. Anytime/Anywhere courses have deadlines – some only one or two, some many. Instructors decide on the deadlines that will best ensure students meet the objectives of the course. Please examine your materials or the course Web site as soon as possible to make sure you understand and can meet your instructor’s requirements. Internet/Online Courses: The syllabus and assignments for these courses are available on a secure Web site to which students are admitted once they register and class begins. The course Web sites often also include message boards and links to other sites. You do not have to be online at any particular time, but there will likely be due dates for the assignments and exams. Most online courses require the purchase of textbooks, and students may also need to take monitored exams. Students for whom it is inconvenient to test at one of the Kirkwood centers can usually make arrangements to test at another location. Packet Courses: Students receive printed packets that include assignments, open-book quizzes and the instructor’s lecture notes. Many packet courses may also have due dates for assignments and exams. Students contact their instructors by phone, mail or email. A textbook is usually required and most of the classes require monitored exams. Students for whom it is inconvenient to test at one of the Kirkwood centers can usually make arrangements to test at another location. 7 County Courses: Some Anytime/Anywhere courses require access to a Kirkwood center, usually because specific media, software or testing requirements. These courses are indicated as 7 County courses in the schedule. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE YOUR CURRENT MAILING ADDRESS. PLEASE CALL 319-398-4958 IF THE ADDRESS WE HAVE MAY BE INCORRECT. Changing your address online may take five working days to process. Information for early registrations is normally mailed two to three weeks before the starting date. Registrations after that are mailed daily. If you have not received your information within a reasonable length of time following your registration, please contact our office immediately. Buying Books: You can purchase your textbooks from the bookstore in Cedar Rapids or Iowa City. You can also order them online at www.kirkwoodbookstore.com. Registration: Register for May start classes beginning with the regular summer registration period and ending five days after the May session begins. Register online (see pages 5 & 6) or call phone-in registration at 319-398-1022 or 1-800-332-8833, or contact your Kirkwood center. NOTE: Anytime/Anywhere courses fill up just like traditional courses. Register as soon as possible. Withdrawing from classes: You may withdraw from a class by selecting register and drop sections on EagleNet. Permission from your instructor is not required. Individual sections may be dropped up to 75 percent of the term. For classes starting May 21, the last day to drop individual sections is July 23; the last day for a complete withdrawal from May start classes is August 10. The refund policy is the same as for traditional classes. Tuition and Financial Aid: Tuition for Anytime/Anywhere courses is at the in-state rate, regardless of the student’s place of residence. Financial Aid can be used to pay for these courses, however if you are taking late start classes, check with the Financial Aid office to see how this impacts your payment. Tutoring: Free tutoring is available for Anytime/Anywhere students with access to a Kirkwood center. Call 319-398-5425 for more information. Still have questions?
