Living Life to the Macks With
JENNAH&
AUBREY
BY WILL OLIVER, MANAGING EDITOR
LIVING LIFE TO THE MACKS
10
Knowing of one another through
their mutual friends and some
conversation on Facebook and
Twitter, Aubrey eventually asked
Jennah out on Taco Bell dates a
number of times. Jennah said nothing ever came of it, and Aubrey
made his way to school in Albany.
As Jennah tells it, their paths crossed again several years later.
“One day, Aubrey and his friends came into the restaurant I
was working at and ordered food,” Jennah said. “ … I totally
remember fan-girling over how attractive he was. It wasn’t until a
year later my four-year relationship would come to an end, and I
would be reunited with Aubrey.”
He happened to message Jennah a week after her previous
relationship ended, wondering if their Taco Bell date was still on
the table.
“I finally gave him the chance to take me out, and it has been history
ever since,” Jennah said. “Since our date in 2016, Aubrey has
brought me so many laughs, lots of joy, and genuine happiness.”
They both spoke on why they love one another.
“Aubrey has a very fun and contagious personality,” Jennah said.
“He enjoys doing things for others. I think that’s what I admire
most about him. He always puts others before himself.”
“What makes me and Jennah love each other is the fact that we
know how to make each other happy; we know what to do when
the other is down and when the other is up,” Aubrey said. “After
several months of being together, I could see that she really cared
about me and knew how to always put a smile on my face. I felt
as if she was my best friend all my life, and that I could open up
and talk to her about anything.”
Aubrey said Jennah pokes fun at him because he’s “not really the
romantic type.” But Jennah said that even though they both have
different love languages, they still make a great pair.
She explained that she finds love mainly through words of
affirmation and quality time, while Aubrey appreciates acts
of service and physical touch. They continued to stress that
communication is key to any lasting relationship.
“A relationship is made up of compromises and meeting in the
middle,” Jennah said. “So even though our love languages differ
from each other, I think we complement each other well.”
They like adventure, and even though they’re always on the run,
the Macks still prioritize quality time with one another.
“I feel like we are constantly on the go, so I personally enjoy just
sitting down with him, talking about each other’s day, and just
spending time with each other,” Jennah said. “ … I surprised him
with a trip to Wyoming and Montana for his birthday in 2021.
That’s still my favorite trip we have taken together.”
“We love to take rides in the truck and just explore new places,
take beach trips or mountain trips with one another,” Aubrey said.
He added that, on occasion, he can get her to tag along with
him on a hunt.
“The best memory I have is watching her take her first deer,”
he said. “I believe I was more excited than she was, and the joy
it brought to me was unbelievable.”
The two were together for five years before tying the knot.
They explained that having your priorities in order should take
precedent over rushing to get married.
“I feel like society puts a rush on being married, buying a
home, and raising a family,” Jennah said. “Communication
is key. It’s important to be on the same page and have
realistic expectations.”
“Some advice I would give to those looking to get married: patience
is key,” Aubrey explained. “Marriage should not be rushed.”
“Be sure you have found the right one
who loves you for who you are, and will
be there for you when times are good
and also bad.”
A longer engagement worked well for
their situation, and they recommended
it to others interested in taking their own
next steps in love.
“It gave us time to figure out a budget, organize a
guest list and a to-do list for the day of,” Jennah explained. “It
also helped to use an all-inclusive venue.”
Aubrey proposed on Jan. 9, 2021 at The Pines at Bear Creek
Reserve, where he also serves as a guide for quail hunts.
Asking for her father’s blessing that Christmas Day prior,
Aubrey had some time to come up with a plan with one of his
friends to make the engagement one to remember.
LIVING LIFE TO THE MACKS
“Aubrey had his friend Bruce call him and ask him to help to
find a remote controller to a dog collar out at a hunting reserve,”
Jennah said. “Aubrey asked if I would go with him to help find
it.”
“We parked, we walked down a dirt road where Bruce told
Aubrey they had last been at. A couple feet in front of me I
saw a remote controller, and when I turned around to hand it to
Aubrey, he was down on one knee and said, ‘will you spend the
rest of your life with me?’”
To top it all off, Bruce was in the trees taking pictures of the
whole occasion.
Aubrey reflected on the proposal, saying he and Bruce
originally planned for it to take place later than it actually
happened — but he just couldn’t wait.
“I woke up late and rushed [Jennah and I] out the door telling
her Bruce needs my help, and I needed her to go with me,”
he said. “Of course, she just woke up and didn’t have the best
attitude, so I powered through it knowing this was going to
change her life forever.”
After they got to the reserve and eventually approached the
“lost” controller, Aubrey knew it was showtime.
“My heart began to beat out of my chest, a thousand questions
ran through my head, and I began to tune everything out,”
Aubrey said. “ … As she walked out in front of me, I knew it
was my time to shine. I followed her and pulled the ring out of
my vest. As she turned around to hand it to me, I was down on
one knee with a smile on my face, holding her ring out.”
The Macks were married at The Retreat at Southern Bridle
Farms on Oct. 1, 2022. A little wedding was never in the
cards for them, as Jennah explained, with close to 300 guests
attending. The Macks also wholeheartedly recommended
making use of a “flower dude” in the ceremony.
Although Aubrey was “adamant” about not crying on their wedding day, that didn’t work out as he
had planned.
“We did a first look, and when he turned around he was crying; I was completely taken off guard,”
Jennah said. ”I also surprised Aubrey with a pre-recorded message I had played before I walked
down the aisle. He loves surprises, so I’m glad I could do something special for him.”
“The best memory I had from our ceremony was all of it,” Aubrey said. “Seeing our friends and
family come together and celebrate us was amazing and prideful. We had a big wedding and
ceremony, and was told multiple times that it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended because
we had a lot of fun.”
The couple is looking to either buy a home, or buy some land and build their dream home here
soon. They are also looking forward to raising a family.
“One goal I have in our relationship is to have a healthy, happy family,” Aubrey said. “Traveling is
a plus, but knowing that we have a healthy family means more to me than anything.”
The Macks are residents of Warner Robins. Jennah is a pediatric hygienist, and also a dental
hygiene adjunct instructor at Central Georgia Technical College. Aubrey works in multiple
different things, including: land management, construction, dog training and helping with 24.7, a
The
Of T
BY BRIEANNA ROMERO
Spanning multiple states at times, Abby and Matt
Hearst’s relationship has truly gone the distance,
and is making strides towards the future for the
young couple, as it has done in years past.
Originally from Macon, Abby lived in Kathleen
for a decade, meeting her husband while
attending Veterans High School. While they
were studying romance languages, she admitted
she wasn’t too keen on romance with Matt.
“We had Spanish class together and he would always flirt with
me and try to take me out. However, I wasn’t interested at the
time,” Abby said.
This changed in 2018, after Matt asked her to the fair.
“I thought he was joking, so I said yes, not knowing that he was
completely serious. On our first date, I knew that Matt was the
one for me forever,” Abby said.
e
he Hearsts
Although she knew right away, she wanted Matt to say “I love
you” first, and almost lost sight of her wish one night while
saying goodbye to him in her parents’ driveway.
“I almost slipped up and said it by accident. But then, Matt told
me that he loved me and I said it back. It was like he was reading
my mind,” Abby said.
Matt went on to study at Kennesaw State University, while Abby
would visit him on the weekends. Abby said those weekends
were some of her favorite memories while they were dating.
Abby would go on to study Social Work at Middle Georgia State
University, while Matt continued studying. After Matt graduated,
he made some big moves, both in his studies and his relationship.
Matt proposed to Abby at Copeland’s Restaurant in May of
2021, shortly before he moved to Delaware to pursue his Masters
degree at the University of Delaware. While Abby admitted the
proposal didn’t originally go how she envisioned it, she said she
wouldn’t have changed a thing.
“I was so surprised when Matt proposed. Matt’s family was
there and my family was there, for what I thought was for Matt.
My mom and I had actually planned to surprise Matt for his
graduation dinner by inviting my family to come. But, I was
the one being surprised,” Abby said. “I had no clue and it was
perfect. I always said that I would not want to be proposed to in
a restaurant, in front of a lot of people, and if I did not have my
nails done. However, I was proposed to in a restaurant, in front of
a lot of people, and did not have my nails done.”
Abby admitted that she was more laidback about planning the
wedding, while Matt had more opinions.
“Matt was thinking too much about what the wedding should be
like for everyone else. After reminding him that it was about us,
it went very smoothly. I did not stress at all because I knew that
it was only one day and that it was not worth stressing about. I
knew that it would be perfect no matter what,” Abby said.
21
THE HEART OF THE HEARSTS
Still, she encouraged those who are planning not to stress and
to have a plan to keep track of all the moving parts involved
with planning.
“It is supposed to be a fun day for you and your husband. When
it comes to planning, any time that I would think of something,
I would write it down in my notes app on my phone. This would
help me get it out of my brain and to tackle things one at a time,”
Abby said.
Most importantly, she encouraged brides-to-be to enjoy the ride.
“After your wedding day, it is all over so fast. All of that
planning you did for your big day is now over. With that being
said, enjoy it. I am so glad that I did not stress over my wedding
day. I was rolling with the punches and fine with whatever
happened,” Abby said.
Abby and Matt tied the knot in Byron at the Wedding Barn at
L’Horne, on October 8, 2022, surrounded by family and friends;
to Abby, they made the day unforgettable.
“I am very sentimental so my favorite moments would be getting
ready with my bridesmaids and family, having my first looks
with my daddy and step-dad, Matt and I reading each other
letters before our ceremony, my granddaddy ministering our
wedding ceremony, and my first dances with Matt, my momma,
my daddy, and step-dad,” Abby said.
22
After the wedding Abby was excited to settle into both graduate
school and married life. She is currently studying at Auburn
University for her Masters degree in Social Work. After she
graduated from MGSU in May 2022, she said she immediately
packed up with Matt and her family, and moved to Montgomery,
Alabama to attend school.
Having done long distance with Matt for nearly four years prior,
she said living together and making moves in their careers has
been exciting for her, and she enjoys supporting Matt while she
finishes her schooling.
“I know this is so cheesy, but my favorite things post-marriage
would be being able to cook for Matt, do his laundry, and make
his lunch for him. He works so that I can focus on my school so I
enjoy doing things for him in order to help him out as much as I
can,” Abby said.
It comes naturally to Abby, since acts of service and gift giving
are her love languages. Matt’s are quality time and physical
touch, so Abby encouraged those tying the knot to learn each
other’s love languages.
“Since we do not have the same love languages, we have adjusted
to how we show appreciation for one another. It is common to
show your significant other the love languages that you want to
receive, so we have been figuring that out as we go,” Abby said.
Matt currently works at a hospital as an exercise physiologist,
while Abby will graduate from Auburn in May. She has her
career lined up, and said their future plans include staying in
Montgomery for another year or so, taking their honeymoon
and coming back to Georgia to start a family. Overall, Abby is
excited to take the next steps with her husband and two dogs by
their side.
“My husband is the most thoughtful, selfless, and sentimental
human that I know,” Abby said. “He does and will do anything
for me. He puts me first and always thinks of me when making
decisions. I know nobody is perfect, but he is to me.”
Tips For The Big Day
Six Ways To Make Your Wedding Day
As Special As It Should Be
BY TYLER MEISTER
‘You don’t want to take on the responsibility
of doing it yourself.’
“Trying to do it all yourself is going to put more
stress on you,” Green said.
There are so many details, arguably too many
details, for a bride and groom to try and manage on
a day when they’re supposed to be happy.
It’s important that you as the couple make decisions
— it is, after all, your day — but at the same time,
you don’t want to have to carry the brunt of it. The
two of you don’t need to be calling florists and
backup photographers on the day of the wedding.
Green recommends finding some backup, a person
or people who can help manage all the ins and outs,
maybe even someone who does it professionally.
Learn To Say No.
Weddings are something special. The date you and your
future spouse set, for the rest of your life, will be a
day you remember as your wedding day.
You’ll think about the food and drinks, you’ll think about the
music, the venue, the flowers, you’ll think about the dresses and
suits, the words spoken during the ceremony, the friends and
family who came to celebrate your love — the details, the little
things, those will be the things you think about 60 years down
the line.
And at the same time, and partially because the betrothed have so
many details to concern over, there is a lot of industry surrounding
weddings. It can take anywhere from six months to a year to
plan a wedding (sometimes less, sometimes more), and the cost
can range anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000+ (sometimes less,
sometimes more). There are florists and bartenders, venues and
menus, photographers, bands and pastors — all moving parts
that have to come together exactly when they’re intended to for a
wedding to clinch just right.
“Don’t take on no new events, no new things that
your friends may want you to do,” Green said.
“They may want you to go on a trip with them. Nah.
No, because when you’re on that trip your mind is
going to be one way.
“That’s taking on a challenge, that’s taking on
an expense.”
Put simply, avoid new projects, new events as your
weddings draws near. It could make the whole process
of getting married more stressful than it needs to be by
giving you another event to add to your schedule, and
more money drawn from your wallet.
It’s important for the weddlings that everything go well. Not for
vanity, but for the memory.
That’s why we spoke with Barbara Green, the lead designer and
event planner behind Golden Moments Events. With ten years of
experience putting together all the necessary parts to weddings
and other milestone celebrations, Green had a few nuggets of
wisdom to impart on our readers.
26
Avoid too many ‘helpers.’
“You may have family members saying they’re
going to contribute and do this, but what if
something happens as an emergency, and they can’t
help you?” Green asked. “Then you’re stuck with
doing this yourself.”
While friends and family often want nothing more
than to provide you with some assistance, we’re all
human. Mistakes happen, alarm clocks have snooze
buttons and kids get sick.
You shouldn’t avoid help from your loved ones, but
at the very least, have a backup plan.
Hire a day-of coordinator.
“That person takes care of everything,” Green
explained. “[They] run errands, go and gets any
kind of sodas, or maybe the girls need something
for their hair.
“[They’re] going to make sure all of your vendors are
there on-site, and if not, [they’re] going to call them.
[They’re] gonna have a list if they don’t show up.”
The purpose of a day-of coordinator is to take the
burden of the day off of you.
A wedding requires a lot of management, and to try
to do that while simultaneously wrapping your head
around the day and being in love at the same time
— it’s too much. There are people who get paid to
do it, so it’s a full chore.
Off-load that to someone else you can trust.
Today, nothing matters but you.
Don’t let it get to your head, but this one is simple — today
is about you. All your friends, your family, they’re here for
you. So are all the vendors, the planners and the performers.
Make sure you remember it fondly.
We can’t ensure that these few tips will make for a perfect
wedding day, but they’ll definitely help. There’s a lot of
build-up to weddings. You plan for a full year, you spend all
this money, your friends and family all make a fuss over it.
When the day finally rolls around, that’s all it is — a single
day.
It all goes so fast. Enjoy it.
‘Relax and enjoy the day.’
“It’s going to be the way it’s supposed to be,”
Green said.
Trying to make it all perfect for everyone else
hardly matters, because the only person who will
notice any mistakes will be you. The important part
is that both of you are happy and having fun. That
won’t happen if you’re so concerned over the shade
of pink of the tulips at each table, or the weird way
that Uncle Adam was looking at Aunt Vivian during
the ceremony.
When it’s all said and done, the most you can do is
put the right people in the right places, and then let
the pieces fall as they will. In the end, “it’s going to
be the way it’s supposed to be.”
