My brother Jim and I visited
the historic Cane Ridge
Meeting House (church) in
Paris, Ky. a few weeks back.
It was amazing. Cane Ridge,
believed to be the largest oneroom
log structure in the US,
was built in 1791. To preserve
the church, they built another
structure around the original
church. Cane Ridge hosted
the ‘great revival’ in 1801,
drawing an estimated twenty
to thirty thousand people. The
church is only about a oneand-a-half
hour drive from
Bright, in the midst of some
absolutely beautiful horse
farm country.
Cub Scout Pack 693 (from
Dearborn Hills Church) recently
held their pancake breakfast.
Thanks to all the Scouts and
families that worked so hard. It
was delicious!

The number of people in our
community who passionately
dedicate time to help others is
truly humbling. Ryan Wilson,
the founder of Hanoi’s Lost
Child Foundation (HLCF), is
one of them. HLCF provides
charitable relief to U.S. military
veterans, their families,
and other charitable military
organizations.
A free concert will begin at
7 P.M. on July 28, 2023 thanks
to HLCF. You can enjoy the
music of Ryan Wilson’s band,
One Degree from Mande
which received rave reviews
from those who attended last
year. Brett Bondurant, the
Veteran honoree for 2022, will
be naming the 2023 honoree.
Everyone is WELCOME - not
just HVL residents.
The winner of the prestigious,
annual Doerflein Award
for outstanding
community
involvement
and
community
spirit is
Shirley
Hicks, a
long-time
Shirley Hicks HVL
resident.
Shirley’s hobby is photography,
and she is the official
HVL photographer. She
dedicates much of her free
time to sharing pictures of
events and scenery in the
Valley. The next time you see
an event recap or a picture of
something beautiful in our
community, most likely that
picture was taken by Shirley.
Speaking of photography,
think about joining the Hidden
Valley Photography Club.
It is open to anyone- you do
not have to be an HVL resident
to be a member. We are
all photographers now that we
have those powerful cameras
called smartphones with us
24/7. Wouldn’t it be nice to be
able to take professional-looking
photos? Doug Gabbard
founded the Photography
Club in 2019, and it is more
than a monthly meeting to
attend. Doug created several
social media forums that provide
unbelievable resources to
all skill levels on innovative
games, engaging projects,
how-to tips, etc. Reach out
to the Photography Club by
joining the Facebook group
or contacting Doug and be
on your way to becoming the
next famous photographer!
Robert Starks has been
appointed as President of the
HVL Board. Others holding positions
for the coming year are
Ken Horn, Vice President; Jeff
Fuell, Treasurer; Donna Yetzer,
Secretary; and Grant Smiley,
Member at Large. The Board
meetings are held on the fourth
Thursday of every month.
The Willie’s Cruise-In is
officially in full swing on
the second Tuesday of each
month through September.
Hundreds of antique and
original cars and trucks are
displayed. The Cruise-In is
in Willie’s parking lot and
starts at 6 P.M. In May over
one hundred twenty cars were
displayed, from Corvettes to
completely renovated early
vintage trucks.
So many events and activities
are happening in our
unique community, so join in
and have a wonderful summer!
