Description of the <strong>Synchronous</strong> Motor<br />

1.1 Features, system prerequisites<br />

Permanent -magnet synchronous motors<br />

Depend<strong>in</strong>g on the motor type, the rotor has <strong>in</strong>ner (IPM) or outer (APM) permanent<br />

magnets, refer to Chapter 2.5.2.<br />

Motor sp<strong>in</strong>dle<br />

A motor sp<strong>in</strong>dle generally comprises the follow<strong>in</strong>g assemblies (refer to Fig. 1-3):<br />

S Sp<strong>in</strong>dle hous<strong>in</strong>g<br />

S Sp<strong>in</strong>dle shaft with bear<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

S <strong>Built</strong>--<strong>in</strong> motor<br />

S Cool<strong>in</strong>g system<br />

S Encoder system<br />

Bear<strong>in</strong>g<br />

endshield, NDE<br />

Stator with<br />

The sp<strong>in</strong>dle manufacturer is responsible for design<strong>in</strong>g the bear<strong>in</strong>gs, lubrication and<br />

cool<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

A ferrite sp<strong>in</strong>dle shaft is required <strong>in</strong> order to achieve the appropriate electrical<br />

characteristics.<br />
