EXPERTISE
– Surface/intracellular pH and [Cl - ], performed using a combination of proton selective
microelectrode and two electrode voltage clamp techniques;
– in vivo micropuncture and stopped-flow microperfusion measuring tubular pH (or K + )
and transepithelial potential differences, performed using a double-barreled H + (or K + )
exchange resin/reference electrode;
– Measuring Intracellular pH and calcium using fluorescence microscopy;
– Osmotic water permeability, performed using a video imaging system
– Basic molecular biology techniques;
– Surgical procedures: rats (cannulation of the jugular vein, carotid artery, bladder, and
exposure of the kidney for studying renal function and in vivo microperfusion) and frogs
(to isolate of oocytes for electrophysiology and molecular biology experiments);
– Evaluation of renal function in rats and in humans (for students of medical school);
– Basic cell culture techniques;
– Extensive knowledge in the preparation of micropipettes and ion-sensitive
microelectrodes;
