The Global Tourism Plastics Initiative<br />

(which is part of the UN World Tourism<br />

Organization) unites the tourism sector<br />

behind a common vision to address the<br />

root causes of plastic pollution. It enables<br />

businesses, governments and other<br />

tourism stakeholders to lead by example<br />

in the shift towards a Circular Economy<br />

of plastics.<br />

THE SHIFT<br />

The Shift is the Belgian sustainability<br />

community. Its platform of diverse organizations<br />

has one common goal: to<br />

actively work together towards a more<br />

sustainable economy and society. They<br />

bring together over 540 companies,<br />

NGOs, public and academic institutions<br />

and are the national point of contact for<br />

the World Business Council for Sustainable<br />

Development (WBCSD), CSR Europe<br />

and B Corp.<br />

GLASGOW DECLARATION<br />

ON CLIMATE ACTION IN<br />

TOURISM<br />

The Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action<br />

in Tourism unites travel and tourism<br />

behind a common set of pathways for<br />

climate action, aligning the sector with<br />

global commitments and catalyzing collaborative<br />

solutions to the many challenges<br />

facing businesses and destinations<br />

globally. The Glasgow Declaration<br />

encourages climate action in tourism by<br />

securing commitments to reduce emissions<br />

in tourism by at least 50% over the<br />

next decade and achieve net-zero as<br />

soon as possible before 2050.<br />

SILVER RATING <strong>2022</strong><br />

GREEN DEALS ANDERS<br />

VERPAKT<br />

Green Deals Anders Verpakt was created<br />

by the Flemish government in Belgium<br />

and signed by more than 80 companies<br />

in <strong>2022</strong>. They focus on reducing oneway<br />

packaging by avoiding or reusing it,<br />

thereby also reducing the environmental<br />

impact of the packaged product. By signing<br />

the Green Deals Anders Verpakt, we<br />

commit to working actively on prevention<br />

(omission of the packaging, transport in<br />

bulk) and packaging reuse.<br />

VLAIO DEVELOPMENT<br />

GRANT OF THE FLEMISH<br />

GOVERNMENT<br />

Confirming the innovative nature of<br />

<strong>deSter</strong>’s sustainable product developments,<br />

<strong>deSter</strong> was awarded two major<br />

development grants, funded by the<br />

Flemish government, for the development<br />

of dry-molded fiber packaging<br />

technology and the development of our<br />

Paper Board cutlery.<br />

EcoVadis is currently the world’s largest<br />

and most trusted provider of business<br />

sustainability ratings, with a global<br />

network of more than 100,000 rated<br />

companies. Its methodology is built on<br />

international sustainability standards,<br />

including the Global <strong>Report</strong>ing Initiative,<br />

the United Nations Global Compact,<br />

and the ISO 26000. In <strong>2022</strong> <strong>deSter</strong><br />

reaffirmed its Silver Rating. We were<br />

awarded a score of 65 compared to the<br />

last year’s score of 54. This elevates<br />

<strong>deSter</strong> to the top 10% of all rated<br />

companies in the industry.<br />
