Welcoming and smart
The Cheviot Area School office is sporting
anew mural, and aplaygroundupgrade is
well underway.
The projects, which have seen mums,
dads and pupils pitch in over the school
holidays, are all part of apush to brighten
up the school, make it welcoming and
smart.
Mel van Reenen saysshe initiated the
mural.
It is based on designs and ideasfrom
students,under the guidanceofartist,
students met at Mark’s studioinKaiapoi,
whereheasked what Cheviotand the
school meant to them.
Whilethe project had been delayed
because of Covid, Mel says the end result is
an inclusivedesignofactivities, sport,
recreation, and placesspecial to the
district.
They are embraced with the names of
the villages and districts in the Cheviot
district,forming the outercircle of the
Joanne says many of its featuresdated
back many years,and wererundown. GH
BuildingLtd had done atremendous job in
making the fort safe and, after two days of
toil duringthe holidays, withthe huge
number of people involved, alot had been
achieved in making the playground user
friendly for all uses.
The projectwas given ahuge boost
