Other major changes to the event is that, whereas in the
past entry was restricted to “Certified Lifeguards”, now,
due to safety training for Surfing Instructors and various
forms of Water Safety and Rescue, all persons who hold
a certification in water safety and rescue may enter the
competition. In addition, to keep costs to a minimum, only
two persons are required to form a team, these can be male,
female, or mixed. There is also a division for under-18-yearolds
who have Junior Lifesaver qualifications.
Since the pandemic, unfortunately, companies such as
Standard Insurance Co. Inc. who had supported this event
for many years have withdrawn their sponsorship until they
can recover from losses caused by the pandemic. Should
any company or organization be interested to assist in
sponsorship, packages are available for as little as Twenty-
