the parish noticeboard — 1 Notices The Parish Magazine - October 2023 7 Rev Kate Toogood: We shall gather to say farewell to Kate on Sunday 29 October at 10:30am. She will be inducted as Vicar of Earley St Peters on Sunday 3 January at 7pm. All parishioners are able to contribute towards a leaving gift and are invited to either do this by bank transfer or by sending a cheque or cash to The Ark Parish Office, St Andrew’s Church, Sonning, RG4 6UR. The vicar said 'Kate and the family have been with us for six years and in that time she has fitted so much in, both in the parish and with the chaplaincy and maths department at Blue Coat School. I have valued her as a colleague and she has proved a loyal and hard working priest and I know we shall all miss her, but maybe not her quirky mathematics jokes! Seriously though, I wish her and the family every blessing and thank them all for their contributions to our church life.” Director of Music: A new director of music post has been created by Hertford College, Oxford, and Hannah has been appointed. Sadly, this means she needs to step down from her role with us at the beginning of October. In a relatively short space of time Hannah has achieved much with our choirs and we have enjoyed some spectacular celebratory services for the late Queen’s Jubilee, and the King and Queen's Coronation. Richard Meenan MA ARCO, has been offered the role and, subject to all the necessary checks, will replace Hannah in early October. Richard is the former head of music at Reading School and latterly of the Reading Blue Coat School. We look forward to welcoming him. An evening with Nicky Gumbel 6pm Sunday October 29th A relaxed evening, open to everyone, for a Q&A with the charismatic founder of the Alpha course and Bible in One Year app along with his lovely wife Pippa. Please bring a friend and join us at St Andrew’s Church in Sonning. Harvest Festival: Sunday 1 October at 10.30am. We will be collecting non perishable goods for the Woodley Food Bank and/or cash donations. There is full list of items needed by the Food Bank on page 23 of this magazine. FoStAC Church Cleaning Day: Saturday 28 October at 9.30am. The Friends of St Andrew's Church (FoStAC) trustees will be thrilled if you can help them clean St Andrew’s Church on Saturday 28 October from 9.30am to 12.30pm. This annual event will ensure that the Church sparkles in preparation for the Remembrance Service on Sunday 11 November and for the forthcoming Christmas celebrations. All cleaning materials will be provided, and tea/coffee refreshments will be arranged for the 'cleaning crew'.
