Mr Nice Guys Celebrate Third
Anniversary & Halloween Party
Time flies when you’re having fun - OR when you are
super busy. The latter has been true for Rich and
Karen DeSane, owners of downtown Melbourne’s Mr
Nice Guys Smoke Emporium who want to invite customers
on Saturday, October 28th to an Anniversary
and Halloween party that lasts all day long.
It was in the middle of the Covid pandemic when Rich
decided to open a smoke shop that has a lot more to offer
than all different kinds of smokes. There are bohemian
clothes, selective art work, jewelry, “it’s everything counter
culture,” says Rich who has always been an entrepreneur,
working a landscaping business and surfing in his free time.
But he’s never owned a brick and mortar business.
Taking a risk is what Rich does, but this time he needed
help from his wife Karen who started working at their new
business. The first couple of years Mr Nice Guys opened
around Noon and stayed open until 8 or 10pm. Soon Rich
and Karen realized that they need longer store hours. Add
son Wyatt DeSane, a 23 year-old, who has been studying
glass blowing for two years under the mentorship of Ryan
“GlassToMouth”. Wyatt was a manager at Cryderman’s and
he liked his job there. But when opportunity knocks, you
gotta answer. They came up with the idea to extend the back
of the store and create a glass blowing studio. “I’m really
looking forward to it,” says Wyatt. And then there is son
Travis (19) who helps out stocking the merchandise whenever
he’s needed. It’s a family affair. Check out the Anniversary
Party on Saturday, October 28th. Visit the store, enjoy
live entertainment, and maybe try an exotic soda.
Cadillac Cove in Satellite Beach
The BIG Come-Back!
The Cadillac Cove has received a major facelift - not just
by the many renovations in the past months, but also
with a new ownership that represents decades of experience
in the hospitality business. Their goal is to elevate the
once legendary landmark back to its old glory. With positive
vibes, community spirit, great food and entertainment, Cadillac
Cove will be a new hot spot on SR A1A.
For the second time within a year local legend Lou is
coming to the rescue to blow life back into an ailing establishment.
He did it successfully at Dos Amigos (which has
a new owner by now) before he moved to Cadillac Cove.
If you haven’t lived here for the past 30 years, you
might not know that during the 90s The Cove was the hottest
dance spot around. When it was sold, it faced years of
mis-management until it became Whiskey Beach, and then
the pandemic hit. Lou, on the other side, has sold the ever
successful Lou’s Blues in 2018 and was just happy with his
Moo’s Soft Serve, one of the coolest ice cream shops on the
beach. But now: “COVID IS OVER!” says Lou. “People
need to come out again and have fun.” And that’s the main
reason why he came back from “retirement.”
Cadillac Cove is fueled by Spencer Kitchens, elevated
cuisine at reasonable prices. The photo shows Steven Spencer
(yes, the one from Harbor City Local) who started his
career as a chef and came back as chef entrepreneur. Next
is the legendary Lou with General Manager Sabrina Cotta,
who came back to town to WOW us again with her energy.
