Ethan T. Astor (BBA10) <strong>of</strong><br />

Clear Lake, <strong>Iowa</strong>, passed away<br />

peacefully at the age <strong>of</strong> 35 with<br />

his wife Harriet and his mother<br />

Kathy by his side. He bravely<br />

fought stage four bile duct<br />

cancer for two years in London,<br />

U.K., while on international<br />

assignment as a director with<br />

PwC. After his rare diagnosis,<br />

Astor fundraised nearly $50,000<br />

for cancer research. Memorial<br />

donations can be directed<br />

to The Cholangiocarcinoma<br />

Foundation.<br />

George L. Eichacker (BA51/<br />

MA52) <strong>of</strong> Homestead, <strong>Iowa</strong>,<br />

passed away at the age <strong>of</strong> 93<br />

in Las Vegas, Nev., where he<br />

lived. He was the former CEO<br />

<strong>of</strong> Keokuk Federal Savings Bank<br />

in Keokuk, <strong>Iowa</strong>, a 66-year<br />

member <strong>of</strong> Rotary International,<br />

and a donor to the college <strong>of</strong><br />

business. Memorial donations<br />

can be directed to the Keokuk<br />

Area Community Foundation,<br />

<strong>of</strong> which he was the founder,<br />

or the Eichacker Community<br />

Center in Fort Madison, <strong>Iowa</strong>.<br />

Marvin L. Hiddleson (BBA59)<br />

<strong>of</strong> Berkley, <strong>Iowa</strong>, passed away<br />

this summer at the age <strong>of</strong> 90.<br />

Hiddleson was an avid Hawkeye<br />

fan—he met his wife, Ruth<br />

Gerber, at the homecoming<br />

football game <strong>of</strong> 1959, and later<br />

became a member <strong>of</strong> the UI<br />

President’s and “I” Clubs. After<br />

serving in the army, he began<br />

his career in financial services<br />

and as a CPA at Peat Marwick<br />

(now KPMG). He later became<br />

SVP and treasurer for American<br />

Federal Savings and Loan <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Iowa</strong>, CFO at FiServ, and CFO<br />

for The Dana Company.<br />

Paul W. Wentzien (BBA59) <strong>of</strong><br />

Gladbrook, <strong>Iowa</strong>, passed away<br />

at the age <strong>of</strong> 85 in St. Louis, Mo.<br />

Wentzien was a partner with<br />

Arthur Anderson & Co., retiring<br />

after 35 years. Two weeks after<br />

his retirement in 1994, he began<br />

his second career, a 25-year<br />

run with Delmar Gardens,<br />

ultimately serving as their CFO.<br />

Wentzien, the 1997 Outstanding<br />

Accounting Alum <strong>of</strong> the Year,<br />

was a long-time supporter <strong>of</strong><br />

the accounting department,<br />

the <strong>Tippie</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Business</strong>,<br />

student scholarships, and the<br />

<strong>Tippie</strong> Gateway Program.<br />
