Beef Farmers of the Year 2023,
finish dairy cross beef calves. They
will discuss how they are on track to
produce carbon neutral beef by 2030
by harnessing better genetics, investing
in research and development and mob
grazing animals.
• Jason Rowntree, professor of Animal
Science and director of regenerative
agriculture at Michigan State University
(MSU), will talk about the importance
of metrics when assessing the
ecological improvement in grazing
systems. At MSU, they are using
regenerative principles to improve soil
health while employing 18–20-month
finishing.
• Other speakers confirmed include:
Ffinlo Costain, podcaster and founder
of the Food and Global Security
Network, who will talk about why
breeding programmes are central to
regenerative transformation, and Alice
Swift, CEO of the British Limousin
Cattle Society, will reveal how reducing
days to slaughter can improve farmers’
green credentials and which breeding
traits can help in this quest.

Beef day takes place on 23 January at Telford
Hotel and Golf Resort in Shropshire and
