Niki Haris and Donna De Lory will bring “Niki + Donna: Songs and Stories” to
New York’s the Green Room 42 for two performances on Saturday, January
27 and Sunday, January 28, both at 7:00 PM. Ever since they met more than
30 years ago, the singers have shared a deep kinship, both musically and
spiritually. Fans felt it, too, as they heard the pair’s extraordinary harmonies
wrap around each other to form one singular voice for nearly 20 years as
they collaborated with Madonna on several tours and videos. Follow Niki on
Instagram @NikiHarisOfficial and online NikiHarisOfficial.com. Find Donna
on Instagram at @DonnaDeLory at online at DonnaDeLory.com. Their joint
INTERVIEW >>
What can audiences expect
from your shows at The
Green Room 42 this month?
Niki – We’re so grateful that
people are still coming to
see us and hear our vocals.
I am going to lean into our
mission statement…We are
in a divisive world, and when
Donna and I stand in front
of an audience to sing, we
want to express the honor,
the gratitude that we have for
the many years of celebrating
our journey. We live different
lives, but music unifies us.
And the audience is going to
experience that. Even when
people seem so polarized,
music can bring us together.
There is something about
forgiveness and staying
grateful every moment. We just
choose to celebrate through
song.
Donna – For me, every time
Niki and I come together
onstage, it’s an incredible
blessing. I am so grateful
that we’re still singing
together. We
have so much to
share about our
perspectives on
life and sharing our
joy for music and
friendship. People
really feel that in a
deep way.
You two released
a wonderful EP
together, Two
Friends. What
inspired this
recording?
Donna – There
was a video of us
performing “Rain” in
Madonna’s “Girlie Show” tour.
Someone sent me the link,
I read all the comments and
I re-experienced us singing
together. I was so moved by
hearing our voices together
and the simplicity of it. From
the comments, I saw that there
was so much love and support
from people wanting us to keep
singing together. I had just
asked Niki to record with me
on an a capella song called
“Kinder,” from my album The
Unchanging. Then we went
into the studio to record “Rain”
with acoustic instrumentation.
The guitar, string quartet, and
percussion were arranged
around our voices. When the
fans loved it, we decided to
start a pledge campaign, and
everyone was there to really
lend their support. We gave
things like written-out lyrics
and Zoom calls, to inspire
people to help us. So the
fans contributed to the EP
and that’s how it was made!
The first song I thought we
should record was a number
I first heard back in the ‘90s,
when we were still singing with
Madonna, “Two Friends” by
Brian O’Dougherty. That song
really represents who we are.
After 20 years collaborating
with Madonna on various
concerts and videos, are
there any particular special
memories you want to
share?
Donna - Wow, so many…
I love when we were all
together on stage and having
so much fun. There was a lot
of comedy and playfulness.
That’s something the three of
us shared together. There was
a magic when we were being
playful, singing “Material Girl”
in curlers. We had so much
fun with “I’m Going Bananas,”
just cracking ourselves up on
stage.
Niki – There is a great photo of
the three of just laughing, with
our mouths just completely
open. I think it was from Life
Magazine. We were just
laughing so loud. We had fun,
there was room to improvise, to
just be in the moment!
What other projects are you
both working on that you’re
excited to share with your
fans?
Donna – Niki and I are working
on remixes or brainstorming
about a new album. Right
now, we’re touring with our
live shows, so there’s a lot of
energy going into that. It’s how
we’re telling stories
of our life together in
music. Plus, we both
have our individual
projects. I am
currently mixing a
record with guitarist
James Harrah, who
played on the first
two Madonna tours.
It’s an ambient,
healing record
that’s meant to help
people get through
difficult transitions
in their lives. I’ve
also been releasing
singles in world electronica and
other genres.
Niki – I am about to leave for
a tour of international jazz
festivals, and I have a new jazz
record coming out next year.
Right now I am completely
overwhelmed with learning
to sing through the changes
of some of these American
songbook standards. I am trying
my best to honor the music!
Plus, I am working on a new
inspirational record.
And then, at this moment,
we’re talking about performing
the Niki and Donna show in
theaters all around America. We
want this show to inspire people
to do what Facebook
and Instagram were
supposed to do…
to actually talk to
each other and feel
connected again. It’s
important to honor
those who you have
poured into you,
and vice versa. Just
honor the connection.
Always say thank you
to the people who
share the journey of
your life. Because
the next breath is not
promised.
PEPPERMINT
Celebrated queen extraordinaire, actress, singer,
activist and influential central heroine in queer nightlife,
Peppermint has raised the roof for sold out crowds all over
the planet. She is now about to take over television screens
everywhere with a barrage of lively and entertaining
projects. After her success as the first trans contestant on
the iconic RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 9), she earned a role
in Broadway’s hit Head Over Heels while also releasing six
record albums, a tribute to Janet Jackson with her “Rhythm
Nation” dance video, her live stage LA performance of A
Transparent Musical, and so much more.
Currently, Peppermint will be included in the second season
of The Traitors, hosted by Alan Cumming and streaming
on Peacock early this year. The Emmy nominated series is
situated in a remote castle deep in the Scottish Highlands
where 21 reality stars come together to complete a series of
challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize of up
to $250,000. She also has a recurring role in the comedian
Michelle Buteau’s hilarious new Netflix series Survival of
the Thickest, which premiered last summer. Available also
on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube,
and Vimeo is Peppermint’s first ever stand-up comedy
special, So-SIGH-Ety Effects. Here, she invites you on a
journey through New York City with a first hand look at what
it’s like to be a single, Black, transgender woman in today’s
society.
Peppermint’s other accomplishments include hosting
and presenting at the GLAAD Media Awards, as well as
being nominated for her contribution to the Discovery and
Legendary series. She is the first ACLU Artist Ambassador
for Trans Justice, which has raised money and awareness
for prominent LGBTQ rights groups, and has partnered with
MAC cosmetics, which is involved in the HIV vaccine trials
network. Peppermint also jumps at every opportunity to
speak at universities and community groups regarding the
challenges faced by transgender and non-binary people in
today’s political climate.
INTERVIEW
HELLO, PEPPERMINT. WITH ALL OF
THE CONVERSATIONS WE’VE HAD,
I’VE NEVER ASKED HOW YOU GOT
THE NAME PEPPERMINT?
After all these years? It is actually my
favorite flavor candy, believe it or not.
That’s not that exciting of a response,
but I was a teenager and I just started
doing drag. There was this boy that
I had a crush on who knew that I did
drag and I was trying to come up with
a name. He basically named me. He
suggested I call myself Peppermint
because he knew I loved it. And it kind
of stuck.
THE TRAITORS. FIRST, DO YOU
REALLY HAVE TO GO TO THE
SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS IN A
CASTLE?
It’s true. Yes, that is exactly the way
you go. It is beautiful. The Scottish
Highlands are gorgeous. It is as
picturesque, even maybe more so, than
you see on TV.
SECONDLY, WHAT ARE SOME OF
THE THINGS YOU WILL BE ASKED
TO DO IN ORDER TO WIN THE
MONEY?
You have to survive. That is literally
the name of the game. Survive, cheat,
backstab. You have to be willing to do
that 100% to even get anywhere in the
game. I have to wait to write my book
of advice about Traitors because you’ll
have to see how my experience plays
out, but I think I need to have another
turn at something like that in order
to really know how to do it. I was so
starstruck by many of the people when I
went in the house. People that we have
all watched on TV over the years. On
reality shows. Because obviously, this
season is all reality show stars. That
was very surreal for me. I wanted to
go in there and build relationships with
people. So that whether I was a traitor
or not, I would be able to rely on the
friendships and the bonds that I built. Of
course, I was OK being a traitor, but I
was more happy not being a traitor this
time around because I didn’t want to be
some conniver. Kill ‘em with kindness. I
am not the backstabbing kind, but what
I do love is a good murder mystery. So
if I have the opportunity to participate
in a murder mystery, I’m going to do it.
When I went into it, I went into it as a
fan because I had watched all the other
seasons.
WHAT KIND OF ROLE DO YOU PLAY
IN SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST?
The show was about a 30-something
fashionista who is newly single and
ready to mingle. A lot of times in the
30s, it’s a time to start a new chapter,
not only in your love life but also in your
career. So I got word from my agent
that I had an opportunity to audition
for a new show that was inspired by a
book. It wasn’t like it was in its second
season. It was a brand new show.
So I didn’t really have a lot to go on
except for what they sent me. To my
surprise, the character they wanted me
to audition for was named Peppermint.
So that was a little bit of a clue that
I might have had something to do
with the inspiration of the character.
Nevertheless, I gave it my all and I
obviously got hired. The character is
Peppermint, but inspired by my real life.
Being a drag entertainer and a trans
woman. She is part of the community
and she owns a drag restaurant. So I
am 100% identical to the Peppermint on
the show. Except for the fact that I don’t
own a restaurant. Yet.

HOW DO YOU GET TO BECOME PART
OF THESE PROJECTS. DO YOU LOOK
FOR THEM AND AUDITION OR DO
THEY JUST FALL INTO YOUR LAP?
My career is a mixed bag. I have a lot of
different things, whether it is advocacy
or theater or TV. I’ve done so many
things and I’m honestly really grateful
to have those opportunities. But for
the most part, most of the things I end
up doing are because I have an agent
and a brilliant team. Eight times out of
10, I usually audition for things that are
scripted. Obviously, if there was a reality
TV moment or an opportunity to do drag,
there’s no audition. But if it is a Netflix
show or Amazon, then those are sort of a
traditional audition. I got a little nervous.
I’m not the best at memorizing. At my
tender young age of 40, my eyes are
starting to get a little blurry, so that’s no
fun reading a script.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR JANET
JACKSON TRIBUTE VIDEO.
Anyone that has watched me over the
years, whether they have seen a live
performance of mine or watched any of
the content I create, knows that I am a
huge Janet Jackson fan. I think that she
is so great. I love her connection, not
only to R&B, but the musical family that
she comes from and also her storytelling
and music videos are iconic. The dancing
and imagery. My number one fantasy
would have been to be a dancer behind
Janet Jackson. Next great thing being
able to perform some of her music and
sort of recreate a tribute performance
to her. Which I did over the years, but
like only for the 100 people that were in
the bar that night or only for the people
who were at the Pride celebration that
year. I said, “You know, I might as well
sort of immortalize it.” I won’t be dancing
around in high heels forever, so I might
as well while I have energy and the ability
to really try to do it. So far we’ve done
Rhythm Nation, If and now we’re doing
video called Together Again, which is from
her Velvet Rope album. That song was
originally recorded and created as a sort
of an homage. A tribute, a love letter to
not only the LGBTQ community, but also
the people who are affected by HIV.
A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL
SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS FUN TO DO.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME
DAVINA?
The musical was fun. The musical is
inspired by the hit Amazon TV series. It
is the same original creators. It is based
loosely on their lives. The cast that they
have this time around is brilliant. My
character is Davina, who is a friend of
one of the main characters, Mara. This
time around, they decided to reimagine
the show and put different people to the
cast and I am lucky enough to have been
one of them. We are hopeful to be able to
bring the show to Broadway next year.
I’M MOST INTRIGUED WITH YOUR SO-
SIGH-ETY EFFECTS. TELL ME ABOUT
THAT AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO DO
IT?
Me and my girlfriend sit around all the
time and gossip and joke about our trials
and tribulations in love. And you know,
dating for anybody is like a s*** show and
never goes right. I think a lot of people
can identify with that. I think being trans
offers a new set of challenges that people
deal with. So I sit around and talk about
those things with my girlfriends. When I
share with my girlfriends kind of like an
inside joke, but I really wanted to be able
to turn that inside out and allow the rest
of the world to get a little taste of what
dating in the trans world would be like.
What better way to educate people than
to make them laugh? A lot of these stories
that happen are really really comical.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER PROJECTS
UP AND COMING?
I hope to bring the musical to Broadway
this year. That is obviously going to be a
big thing if we end up doing it. It will be
a major accomplishment. Right now, in
the near future, I am hoping to release
some music. Original music. I have yet
to release the third and final installment
of my album. Called Letters to My Lovers
part 3. Which is really about validation.
I don’t need your validation to heal after
the relationship. That will be coming out
sometime next year. Every single time I
sit down to finish the album, I get another
opportunity to do a show or compete in a
reality show.
CELEBRITY CORRESPONDENT
Congratulations to the newest LGBTQ New York bar about
to open its doors with a themed boutique, Latin flair. With opulent
Caribbean drinks and decadent, gorgeous Latino men behind the bar
and part of the staff, this could be a fantasy come true. The owners
and management are hoping their patrons will feel like they are in the
midst of the Caribbean or South America, without even leaving New
York. Their focus is hot men who speak both Latin and English and
great DJs who play beats with a Latino and American atmosphere
For a quick insight as to what the bar is all about, we traded questions
and answers with the owner…..
As new bar ownership, what are you looking most forward to?
We are looking to bring back the previous–it was Music Box–but focusing on the future bar
experience of welcoming a new generation of patrons and inviting Manhattan to experience
Jackson Heights like they have not experienced before. We are right above the Roosevelt
Avenue/74th Street station (E, F, R, & 7 trains) and also bus depot, a quick and very
attractive spot for people from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and even New Jersey, looking
for Latin-Spanish atmosphere. And that is what we want to give them.
How are you planning to make your bar stand out? Like our other neighboring
LGBTQ bars in Jackson Heights, Queens is known for its great and friendly service,
secure and safe venues, special event nights, great music and entertainment.
We are planning to stand out and get the attention of the public by creating a strong team,
good looking guys with strong muscles, but also at the same time to make you feel really
comfortable with them. We have a team of trained, educated and polite staff members who
are able to communicate in English and Spanish. We want people to feel like they were in a
part of the Caribbean or South America without leaving the NYC/NJ area.
Our focus is having the best DJs, a great Latin atmosphere, great decoration and amazing
lights, video and sound all around the place.
Will you have themed nights and weekly events?
We are planning to have the bar favorites such as bingo, Karaoke, 2x1 nights. With every
special holiday dates of the year, we will throw special holiday themed parties and create
special drinks and shots for those events and also wear special clothing and accessories
related to every special event.
How about the venue hours and Happy Hour special?
Every day, we are going to have happy hour from 5pm-10pm. We are going to have
entertainers and exotic dancers all year long, So don’t miss out on the party.
What was your inspiration for opening the bar?
The inspiration when creating this project was a boutique. We want every single one
of our customers to feel like they were in a Latin boutique attended for exotic guys, the
decoration, the full set of sophisticated lights and the staff appearance–it’s going to make
you feel this way. You will see all of this since the design of the sign, the mannequins, the
walls, the lights, the staff members–a full package! Hope you all like it as much as the
thought and energy was put in to build it.
Can you introduce your staff?
Our staff was handpicked. Our head bartender is Esteban from Colombia with 17 years
experience working as a bartender for the LGBTQ community. He is leading an amazing
group of good looking Latino guys. As the renovation continues, we already have Jose
Luis, Felipe, Jhontri and Fernando. And a few other surprises yet to come, including hot
looking and amazing servers at the comfortable table settings and VIP area.
For special drinks?
LA BICHOTA, LA DIVA, LYCHEE BOUTIQUE, MB ISLAND, FANTASY MULE, and QUE
CHIMBA. All of them are an amazing mix between the common and the modern mixology
recipes you can find out in the market. The flavor, texture, colors and garnishes are
unique, so you have to try a different one every time you come to visit us. We have a lot
of fruit flavors like passion fruit, lychee and mango. Just request your favorite flavors and
we can prepare something really nice for you. HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
Corey
Streets
Corey Streets is a local NYC singer and
songwriter bringing sexy queer energy
to the R&B and pop scenes. Before
becoming an artist, Corey grew up
homeless, and used music to find himself
as a bi-racial, queer person. Writing
songs about sexual exploration and
empowerment as a queer person, he’s
gained a following for breaking barriers
for many in the LGBTQ+ community.
INTERVIEW
Last year, you released three
songs and a new song already
this year. What a milestone.
How does it feel?
It feels surreal, I remember being
so nervous to release even one
song and waiting what seemed
like forever just to get it out
there. It’s wild to think now I have
shared so much of my art with
the world.
What is your newest song,
“Come Through ‘--available
February 2nd–all about?
Similar to some of my previous
songs, it’s about embracing
your sexuality, while enjoying a
moment with someone. “Come
Through” tells a story of hitting
up a familiar face, and enticing
them to come over for some fun.
What can people expect to
feel when they hear “Come
Through” for the first time?
“Come Through” will give you
a sense of nostalgia, to when
you’ve had or have fantasized
about a sexy encounter with
someone. It is a vibe that gives
you those sexy feels for sure.
There’s a music video for
“Come Through” What will
fans see from Corey Streets?
People will see some looks,
obviously! But really, they’ll see
a few different intimate scenes
where it’s just me in the video
this time. I wanted to make it
as though I was singing to the
person watching, telling them to
come through. Lots of
eye contact, you know,
if you’re into that!
Where do you draw
inspiration from for
your music?
Usually, my own
experiences. Being
queer, I feel like we
get judged for who
we have sex with as
it is. I wanted to take
some of those sexual
moments and make art
out of it that people can vibe to,
even outside of our community.
All of my songs come from an
experience or situation I’ve been
in myself and felt that others can
relate to.
So what’s next for Corey
Streets in 2024?
I’ll be performing and promoting
this new song and plan to have
some special performances later
in the summer for Pride as well.
I also plan to release another
song this spring.
