Today the Grumbletroll and his friends are going on a trip! They want
to find out what it looks like on the other side of the forest, because they
know everything back home. They discover a fantastic adventure playground
that far exceeds their wildest dreams – but they also meet a dog, a cat
and a chicken who behave like a whole herd of elephants in a china store!
When the cat laughs at the bird because it can‘t climb well, there is a
quiet rumbling in the Grumbletroll’s tummy. When the chicken breaks the
rubber boat and blames it on the hedgehog, there is an even louder
crackling and thunder. And when the dog finally pushes everyone off the
slide because he wants to be the first to slide, the Grumbeltroll can no
longer contain his rage. It has to get out. Now. Right now...
Steffi & Michael Gerharz live in Troisdorf, near
Cologne, with their three children. Under their brand
name, aprilkind, they design and develop stories
and cuddly toys that children play with all over the
world. The idea for the Grumbletroll came to them
when their youngest daughter was sitting across the
breakfast table from them, arms defi antly folded,
sulking and grumbling. They designed the little troll
as a transformable soft toy, with great attention to
detail, so that you can’t help but love him even when
he’s angry – and developed a concept for a series
of picture books, working with Stephan Pricken and
Barbara van den Speulhof to bring them to life.
Barbara van den Speulhof
As a passionate children’s book author, director and
producer of (children’s) audio dramas, Barbara
van den Speulhof knows that the topic of anger
plays a large role in a lot of families – and for that
reason, she was very taken with the idea of the little
troll who struggles to keep a lid on his annoyance.
She tells these stories very sensitively – with
relatable, lovable characters and a child’s-eye view.
Stephan Pricken
As the father of a son, Stephan Pricken isn’t a total
stranger to outbursts of rage, either. After following
some odd tangents into mechanical engineering
and architecture, he trained fi rst as a primary-school
teacher with a focus on art, and then as a graphic
designer in Münster. He lives in the city with his
family, and likes to watch other people gardening.
