Clinux CAD expands the range of
design possibilities and capabilities
with a suite of new features
A literal namesake for ‘Clinical User Experience’, Clinux CAD has updated
their CAD software that provides users more choice and freedom in the everimproving
world of digital dentistry.
After over three years in development, Clinux
CAD has launched several innovations to
expand the range of possibilities for users’
workflows. The upgraded Clinux CAD
features include new indications, new margin
tool function, and a pay-per-export license
option.
With its fully open system, the enhancements
enable the dentist to easily import from any
intraoral scanner and export to milling CAMs
or 3D-printing software, thus streamlining the
workflow of designing crowns, inlays, onlays,
overlays, multiple-unit designs, anatomical
and flat plane night guards/splints.
NEW MARGIN TOOL FUNCTION: SEMI-
AUTOMATIC MARGIN
When performing their next case, Clinux
users will now find a fully functioning semiautomatic
margin finder. This semi-automatic
function traces the user’s cursor and finds the
shortest distance along an edge. This allows
the clinician to complete the margin process
quickly and efficiently.
Additionally, users can revert to the previous
manual margin by toggling these functions
through a simple tap of the spacebar key on
their keyboard.
NEW INDICATION: INLAY/ONLAY
The Inlay/Onlay indication addresses a
growing demand from dentist to 3D print
their inlays and onlays. With this addition,
such applications are now fully supported to
provide Clinux users with comfort in familiar
workflow as they have with crowns.
Furthermore, multiple-unit design for Inlay/
Onlay is also fully supported, even in opposing
quadrants.
“The new indications open up a world of
possibilities for dentists wishing to make
their own CAD designs,” said Roddy MacLeod,
Clinux CEO. “Multiple-unit, simultaneous
designing unlocks profitable workflows for the
dentist, whether restoring a quadrant in one
visit or a patient’s new smile.”
PAY-PER-EXPORT LICENSE OPTION
In addition to a monthly, annual, or fiveyear
license options, all of which provide
reportedly unlimited exports, Clinux now
offers a new Pay-per-Export license option
which allows users to pay only when they
export their design, when accessing and
using Clinux CAD.
Exports are purchased in blocks of credits,
with each credit costing between US$3.69-
4.50, based on the volume of credits
purchased.
The clinical convenience continues as Clinux
allows users to mix and match the optimal
design method on a tooth-by-tooth basis. “As
an example, a user may use Database design
when there is no useful pre-existing occlusion
or Copy design — a 1:1 copy of the pre-existing
occlusion which is ideal for reproducing
wax-ups in the anterior. In any scenario,
we have worked to ensure the maximum
clinical outcome through guided and intuitive
workflows,” added MacLeod.
The release of inlays and onlays is timely
with dentistry’s recent and growing interest
in 3D-printing large restorations, rather
than building them by hand with materials
such as composite. The timing also aligns
with concurrent market release of more
durable, ceramic-filled resins from material
manufacturers.
Clinux CAD was founded in 2020 by CAD-Ray
