WELCOME APRIL 2024 GREATER CINCINNATI Robert J. Slattery PUBLISHER I’ve lived in Ohio my entire life. Born and raised in the Cleveland area, I moved to Cincinnati after graduating from Miami University. And this wonderful city has been my home ever since…I won’t go into exactly how many years, but let’s just say it’s been decades. While it’s not a dramatic shift, the weather is just a bit more pleasant in this part of the state. We typically get considerably less snow, and this time of year, spring starts a week or two earlier—and I am not alone when it comes to welcoming things greening up outside. Out on the bike trails, I pass families riding with young children then racers in their colorful shirts pass by me. But it doesn’t matter, I am enjoying my ride. This is a great community when it comes to biking and hiking trails—we’re at the center of one of the country’s most extensive trail systems, reaching from the Ohio River to Lake Erie and points to the east and west in between. See all the places you can go in our feature “Happy Trails” on page 15. When I am hanging out closer to home, it’s often in my backyard grilling out for family and friends. Last year in a bit of a staying healthy leap, we joined the national craze and added a pickleball court. Nearby is a patio deck with comfy chairs and sofas for recovering after the match and perhaps enjoying an adult beverage. This year we hope to add a firepit into the mix. Ellen and I are looking forward to gathering around the fire and sharing stories and s’mores with our grandchildren.
