THE ‘LOST TOWNS’ OF MARTIN COUNTY<br />
Gone but not forgotten, the<br />
nine ‘Lost Towns’ are recognized<br />
via his<strong>to</strong>rical markers throughout<br />
the county.<br />
Thanks <strong>to</strong> the dedication of the<br />
<strong>Martin</strong> <strong>County</strong> His<strong>to</strong>rical Society,<br />
these former communities<br />
will be remembered by future<br />
generations, and visi<strong>to</strong>rs can<br />
trace these ghost <strong>to</strong>wns with the<br />
organization’s <strong>to</strong>ur map.<br />
They include Manyaska,<br />
established in 1899 and once a<br />
prosperous shipping point for<br />
lives<strong>to</strong>ck and grain, the <strong>to</strong>wn of<br />
De So<strong>to</strong>, named for a Spanish<br />
explorer, and Tenhassen, a former<br />
bustling settlement where only<br />
its cemetery remains.<br />

was formed <strong>to</strong> provide funding for Veteran’s<br />
memorials in <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
The current project is erecting a veteran’s memorial <strong>to</strong> all<br />
<strong>Martin</strong> <strong>County</strong> Veterans located in the county seat.<br />
