We love what we do! We work on everything from
house extensions to new builds, barn conversions
to listed buildings, covering residential,
commercial and industrial development projects.
We are not a traditional planning and development
consultancy, as we incorporate architectural
consultancy within the practice – we take a more
holistic, multi-disciplined approach. With our
wealth of technical and commercial knowledge,
our intimate understanding of current planning
legislation and policy and our breadth of expertise,
we provide an end-to-end service from concept to
completion.
How long has the business been established?
The seeds of the business were sown over 20 years
ago and stem from the engineering sector. From
a personal perspective, I’m a Chartered Engineer,
with Masters degrees in both engineering and
business (MBA) and a wealth of experience in
planning and development, gained from working
on large commercial and industrial development
projects across the UK, within a variety of sectors
from data centres, through banking to telecoms
and manufacturing.
After 20 years of working collaboratively with
the planning and architecture sector on these
projects, my passion, background and experience
led to a natural progression. So, having moved
to Monmouth in 2017, the time was right to set
up Onyx Land Consulting the following year.

Chilcott turns the focus onto some of our other local business
professionals. In the spotlight this issue, it’s Ryan Regan, Managing
Director of Onyx Land Consulting.

What do you enjoy most about the work?
Our work is hugely varied - and that’s what I
enjoy! Be it from small residential extensions,
community council representations, to new builds,
HMOs, land promotion works, industrial units and
everything in between. As a ‘people person’, I love
understanding our clients on an individual level.
We work closely with them to realise their goals –
we are very client focussed and pride ourselves on
building relationships with our customers, partners
and suppliers. In addition, the nature of the work
means I’m rarely stuck at a desk, as I’m usually out
and about, either meeting a client on site or in their
office or home – it’s great!
Which services are the most popular?
As a Planning & Development and Architectural
Consultancy, our primary services are Planning and
Architectural Design. I have a team of chartered
town planners, architects and architectural
technologists. Together, we provide end-to-end
project management capability, underpinned with a
personal and professional service.
What sets your business apart from your
competitors?
I think it’s a combination of the range of specialist
services we offer, who we offer them to and our
customer focus. For example, whilst we ourselves
provide architectural services, we also provide
planning consultancy to other architects, as well as
specialist services (i.e. CAD, 3D & Revit Modelling,
Scan-to-BIM) to surveyors and structural engineers.
I have high standards and I expect the same of my
team. Flexibility and responsiveness are critical
elements in this business, being able to adapt to
change and act in a timely manner means getting
things done efficiently and effectively. Above all, I
expect professionalism at all times – we go the extra
mile for our clients, we get to know them, we really
understand what it is they are trying to achieve and
become part of their journey, as a trusted advisor.

about the way you do business?
Our customers are at the heart of all we do, and
our business is based on trust, knowledge and
experience – we want our customers to say the
same about Onyx Land Consulting. Above all,
we want them to feel that they’ve been in capable
