Antarctic krill is one of the largest biomasses on
the planet and is a very important element in
the Antarctic ecosystem. We control the entire
value chain from krill harvesting to end product,
so we can guarantee 100% traceability.

Rimfrost is committed to ensuring that our operations are
sustainable and do not affect this ecosystem. The overall annual
krill catch is only about 0.3% of the krill biomass. Commercial
krill harvesting is very strictly regulated by the Commission
for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources
(CCAMLR) and takes place in area 48.

we host a number of experts on the Antarctic ecosystem from
the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
Onboard inspections
Observers are present on our vessels at all times. This is
a practice we greatly encourage and would like to see
applied universally as transparency is a key principle in our
operations. We strive to be the best at what we do and
therefore inspections and mandatory observers inspire
us to always work harder.

fishing vessel, designed to revolutionize
krill fishing in Antarctica.
Rimfrost is building a vessel that will help us conduct
one of the world’s most environmentally friendly fishing
operations. We have considered emission levels, energy
efficiency, safety and performance to ensure that we
operate in line with stringent international regulations
regarding fishing operations in polar regions.

It also contains features such as heat recovery and diesel
electric propulsion to ensure energy-efficient operation
and easy manoeuvring. Safety and system redundancies
are in place, which are vital when you’re in the Antarctic.
We believe our new vessel will set a new environmental
and sustainability standard for fishing and operations
in Antarctica.

of the nutrients and produce krill products more sustainably.
Enzymatic hydrolysis
Enzymatic hydrolysis is a natural process where enzymes and
water work together to break the protein-bonds holding large
molecules together. It is the same process that naturally takes
place when you are digesting your food.
Using enzymes and low temperatures, the protein in the krill
is gently broken down into smaller peptides. The result is a
nutrient-rich krill paste that can be mechanically separated
from the shells.
At Rimfrost, we use our patented enzymatic hydrolysis
technology to process our krill. We do this offshore,
immediately after harvesting and produce a sustainable
krill product that is rich in EPA/DHA phospholipids,
astaxanthin, choline and proteins.
Using this process gives us the opportunity to take out 30% less biomass than other
traditional methodes. Less waste - more nutrients in the production of krill oil.

Rimfrost krill oil contains the marine omega-3s EPA/DHA,
which are critical to health and disease prevention.
Omega-3s like EPA/DHA are essential for your body

membranes and hormones that regulate your body. They
are also part of the inflammation process, helping to
protect you from infection and injury.

Phospholipids in krill oil
Omega-3s in krill oil are
easily absorbed by the body.
A benefit of krill oil is that its EPA/DHA are bound to phospholipids,
meaning they are easily absorbed by the body, boosting
your body’s ability to use them.
In other oils, particularly plant and animal-based ones, the
omega oils are bound to triglycerides. Triglycerides are less
easily absorbed than phospholipids and are therefore not as
efficient in delivering EPA/DHA.

Astaxanthin
High levels of the
powerful antioxidant
astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin is known as an antioxidant because of the
special properties it possesses. Antioxidants help counteract
oxidative stress, a process that damages cells and can play a
role in cardiovascular disease, diabetes.
A benefit of Rimfrost krill oil is that, as well as containing
marine omega-3 phospholipids and choline, it also contains
high levels of naturally occurring astaxanthin.
Rimfrost krill oil contains more astaxanthin than other krill
oils. This gives Rimfrost krill oil its red colour and helps to
stabilize the krill oil, resulting in a nutrient-rich end product.

Choline is an essential nutrient – officially recognized by
the Institute of Medicine in 1998. The most common dietary
source of choline is egg yolk; however, many people may
not be getting enough choline in their diets.

Krill paste

Rimfrost krill paste is a unique ingredient ideal for super premium diets, supplements and
functional treats for dogs and cats. Krill paste is produced through our patented process directly
on the vessel post-harvest, employing enzymes and minimal heat. This technique ensures a
natural ingredient with minimal processing, preserving its nutrients in their natural form.
Characteristics
Krill paste has a high fat and protein content and is
rich in phospholipid omega-3s EPA and DHA, astaxanthin,
choline and protein. It has reddish brown granules
in various sizes that is soft or paste-like in texture. Mixability
and process parameters is acceptable up to relatively
high inclusion levels. The amount of plastizisers
commonly used in feed and treats can be significantly
reduced when including krill paste. Palatability is high
due to the freshness and unique flavour of shellfish.

Krill hydrolysate
A performance enhancer in your feed range, and a cost
effective solution to reduce marine ingredients in
aquaculture feed.
In trials with salmon krill protein hydrolysate significantly
increased feed intake and growth – suggesting efficient release
of appetite triggering amino acids.
During shrimp trials, the utilization of krill hydrolysate resulted
in improved growth compared to low fishmeal feeds, with
similar feed conversion ratio as the control feeds. Additionally,
it led to enhanced survival rates following osmotic stress.
