Strobl’s artworks
at the Art Paris
In our 30th anniversary year, the galerie gugging is presented at the Art Paris for the fi rst time.
On the occasion of its 26th edition, the established art fair for modern and contemporary art returns
to the Grand Palais Éphémère from April 4 to 7, 2024.
Our presentation will focus on the works of the renowned,
self-taught artist Leopold Strobl, who
is one of the three Austrian positions at the 60th
International Art Exhibition La Biennale di
Venezia this year. His small-format drawings on newsprint,
most of which are no bigger than postcards, act like magnetic
portals and captivate viewers with their powerful, semi-abstract
formal language. On closer inspection, sometimes more, sometimes
fewer figures shimmer through the objects covered in black,
emphasising the mysterious, enigmatic quality.
Works by the Gugging Artist Oswald Tschirtner will also be
presented. Tschirtner is one of the classics of Art Brut and has
long been established in the contemporary art scene. He became
known for his “head-footers”, reduced figures without distinctive
attributes such as clothing or gender. The artist also illustrated
objects or concepts in a minimalist manner.
