MILLENNIAL MAGIC
Why travellers in their 20s
and 30s are embracing cruise
Welcome to the 16th annual
CLIA Conference here in
Southampton for what is yet
another exciting year for the
cruise industry. This year's
conference promises an
unparalleled opportunity to
#DiscoverMore as we spend
the week together learning,
exploring and networking.
This year, our conference is dedicated to igniting your
passion (and that of your customers) for exploration and
discovery. Within our vibrant industry, there are countless
opportunities to #DiscoverMore whether it's uncovering
new destinations, returning to favourite places or immersive
experiences ashore. Destination remains one of the key
drivers for people who take their first cruise, and why they
return time and time again.
Cruise holidays showcase destinations in a unique way.
Firstly, we get to explore multiple places in one holiday,
whilst unpacking once. Secondly, cruise lines operate a
choice of itineraries that allows guests to visit some of the
worlds most diverse destinations, all from the comfort of the
ship. And finally the cruise lines carefully curate shoreside
experiences to give guests an unbeatable opportunity to
explore these destinations, their own way.
During the course of CLIA Conference you will hear from
destination experts, as well as cruise line leaders who
carefully plan itineraries and destination experiences – and
of course you will get to visit some of the amazing ships that
make this unique form of travel possible.
Networking lies at the heart of our conference, embodied by
our renowned trade fair. Use your time carefully and make
new friends and meet old acquaintances. This is your chance
to meet the extended CLIA cruise family – and this year
we are delighted to be working with more cruise lines and
sponsors than ever. We are grateful to all of them for their
support.
With thanks to the CLIA Executive Committee, our generous
ship hosts, our Conference speakers and sponsors, and
our moderator Lucy Huxley, thank you for joining us and for
embracing the spirit of discovery. To all those who contribute
to making CLIA Conference possible, we extend a heartfelt
THANK YOU!
Here's to a conference filled with endless opportunities to
HEN it comes to travel, women
really are doing it for themselves.
Friday is International Women’s
Day and as a solo female traveller,
I can vouch that holidays – and the
world – has never looked so exciting.
According to Forbes, 2024 is the year of the solo
traveller. Google searches for ‘solo travel’ have
quadrupled over the past five years, while the
hashtag #solotravel has seen a tenfold increase on
TikTok and more than eight million mentions on
Instagram. Currently the largest growth sector in the
travel industry, it’s a charge largely led by women.
There are many reasons why women choose to
travel on their own – separation from a partner or
taking a sabbatical from work – but largely it’s about
empowerment, freedom and wanting to do things
your way.
As the editor of 101 Singles Holidays (101holidays.
co.uk/singles), the UK’s only independent singles
holiday site, I love seeing the world on my terms.
My love of solo travel started nearly 30 years ago
when I planned to go travelling around Asia with a
friend. She pulled out at the last minute and I was
left with the decision, should I stay or go it alone?
It turns out that landing in Hong Kong as a
wet-behind-the-ears 21-year-old was the best
decision I ever made. From backpacking through
After rallying, the Prime Minister told
them that he owed his life to the doctors and
adding: ‘I can’t thank them enough.’
The Mail on Sunday today reveals the
extraordinary battle to save the stricken
PM by medics who had been expecting him
in hospital three days before he was finally
admitted last Sunday. At one point, Mr Johnson’s
plight was so grave that Cabinet Ministers
and aides prayed for him.
While in hospital, Mr Johnson has been
boosted by a love letter from his fiancee,
Carrie Symonds, which included a scan of
their unborn child.
The Prime Minister plans to recuperate at
Chequers after his release from hospital
but, with a further 979 coronavirus deaths
announced yesterday, bringing the total in
the UK to 9,937, his allies insist he will control
