Divisional Prizes for Assistant Medical Officers.<br />
(Two Prizes <strong>of</strong> JJzo and £5 resftectively.)<br />
<strong>The</strong> proposal to award Divisional Prizes under the conditions set out below emanated from the<br />
irish Division and was adopted at the A nnual Meeting held on July I 3, 1911.<br />
(i) Two prizes <strong>of</strong> Lzo and Ls respectively will be awarded annually by the Association (pro.<br />
videdsufficient meritbe shown) forthebestpaperreadduringtheprecedingcalendaryearat a<br />
DivisionalMeeting by an AssistantMedicalOfficeror AssistantPhysicianin a Psychiatricor<br />
Neurological Institution or Service. (See also Regulation No. 7.)<br />
(2) Competitors must be members <strong>of</strong> the Association.<br />
(3) Only one paper by a competitor can be entered during any competitive year. <strong>The</strong> same<br />
applies to a paper entered by more than one author.*<br />
(@)Only papers certified by the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Division (in the absence <strong>of</strong> the Secretary,<br />
the Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Meeting) to have been read at a meeting <strong>of</strong> the Division and to be eligible<br />
for this competition can be entered. Divisional Secretaries are to withhold their certificates in<br />
cases where there has occurred material alterations or additions.<br />
(@)Paperscertified aseligible forthecompetitionshallbe forwardedtotheRegistrarnotlater<br />
thanApril30<strong>of</strong>thefollowingyear. <strong>The</strong>y shallbe submittedtotheExaminersfortheCertificate<br />
in PsychologicalMedicineforreportand then adjudicatedon by the President.Publication<br />
shallnot invalidatea paperforadjudication.t<br />
(6)<strong>The</strong> resultshallbe announced,and the prizesawarded,ifany,by the Presidentat the<br />
Annual Meetingin theyearfollowingthecompetitiveyear.<br />
(7) Papers by more than one author can be entered and any prize awarded will be divided<br />
among the authors.<br />
(8) If in any competitive year, one or two papers only are submitted for competition the<br />
Council may withhold either or both prizes; or it may, after considering the report <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Adjudicator, and if in its opinion the paper or papers are <strong>of</strong> outstanding merit, award a first<br />
or second or both prizes, at its discretion.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Certificate in Psychological Medicine.<br />
This Certificate was founded at the Annual Meeting held on August 4, 1885, and the first<br />
examinations were held in 1886.<br />
Candidates must be at least twenty-one years <strong>of</strong> age, and must produce a certificate <strong>of</strong> having<br />
had at least three months' clinical experience <strong>of</strong> mental disorders, or <strong>of</strong> having attended a course<br />
<strong>of</strong> lectures on insanity and the practice <strong>of</strong> a mental hospital (where there is clinical teaching)<br />
for a like period, or they shall give such pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> experience in mental disorders as shall, in the<br />
opinion <strong>of</strong> the President, be sufficient.<br />
<strong>The</strong> examination is held yearly, and is in three parts: (I) Written. (2) Oral. (@)Practical.<br />
Candidates must be registered under the Medical Act (1858) before the certificate is bestowed.<br />
<strong>The</strong> fee for the examination is £335., and intending candidates should communicate with the<br />
Registrar, who will supply date and place <strong>of</strong> examination.<br />
Candidates failing in the examination may present themselves at the next or subsequent<br />
examinations on payment <strong>of</strong> a fee <strong>of</strong> Lx is.<br />
* This means that the joint authors (though separately eligible) cannot enter another paper in the competitive<br />
year.<br />
t <strong>The</strong> original MS., c'irtified in accordance with Regulation No. 4, is to be submitted. Only under exceptional<br />
circumstances can a certified reprint <strong>of</strong> a published paper be accepted, but a reprint, where possible, should<br />
accompany the certified original MS.
