One <strong>of</strong> the highlights <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>’s Literary Awards is<br />
the presentation <strong>of</strong> the Lifetime Achievement Award. The <strong>Library</strong><br />
is pleased to announce that the 2009 Literary Lifetime Achievement<br />
Award will be presented on October 17, 2009, to internationally best-<br />
selling auth<strong>or</strong> and <strong>Virginia</strong> resident John Grisham.<br />
Determinedbyadiversepanel<strong>of</strong>judges,theLifetimeAchievement<br />
Award has been given both posthumously and to living recipients. Grisham joins a stellar cast <strong>of</strong><br />
past recipients: Ellen Glasgow (1998), Edgar Allan Poe (1999), Anne Spencer (2000), Booker T.<br />
Washington (2001), Mary Lee Settle (2002), Louis D. Rubin Jr. (2003), Ge<strong>or</strong>ge Garrett (2004),<br />
Merrill D. Peterson (2005), William Styron (2006), Tom Wolfe (2007), and Rita Dove (2008).<br />
Grisham plans to be in attendance to accept his award.<br />
Since publishing his first novel (A Time to Kill) in 1988, Grisham has written one novel a year,<br />
all <strong>of</strong> which have become international best sellers. M<strong>or</strong>e than 235 million John Grisham books<br />
are currently in print w<strong>or</strong>ldwide, translated into 29 languages. In addition to writing, Grisham<br />
devotes his time to charitable causes, including the recent “Rebuild the Coast Fund,” which raised<br />
$8.8 million f<strong>or</strong> Gulf Coast relief in the wake <strong>of</strong> Hurricane Katrina. Grisham and his family split<br />
their time between their farm in Mississippi and their home near Charlottesville, <strong>Virginia</strong>.<br />
