The <strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>’s African American Trailblazers in <strong>Virginia</strong> Hist<strong>or</strong>y program highlights the accomplishments<br />
<strong>of</strong> African Americans who have made significant contributions to <strong>Virginia</strong> and the nation. The 2009 Trailblazers<br />
ceremony and reception was hosted by Daphne Maxwell Reid on february 26 and spons<strong>or</strong>ed by Capital One and the<br />
Richmond Times-Dispatch.<br />

<strong>Virginia</strong> Women in Hist<strong>or</strong>y event celebrates hon<strong>or</strong>ees<br />
The <strong>Library</strong>’s <strong>Virginia</strong> Women in Hist<strong>or</strong>y program hon<strong>or</strong>s women who have<br />
made significant contributions to society that have <strong>of</strong>ten been overlooked<br />
in the hist<strong>or</strong>y books. The March 26 awards ceremony and reception, hosted<br />
by Lisa Lafata Powell, marked the ninth year <strong>of</strong> this signature event, which<br />
celebrates National Women’s Hist<strong>or</strong>y Month. Students can get involved in<br />
the program by nominating hon<strong>or</strong>ees each year. The program was spons<strong>or</strong>ed<br />
by Dominion, the <strong>Virginia</strong> foundation f<strong>or</strong> the Humanities, the Richmond<br />
Times-Dispatch, and WTVR CBS 6.<br />
