The Rotary Club 0f Maldon
From Alan Higgs
The Queen’s Head on The Quay, was the venue
for a reunion between two members of our
twinned Rotary Club The Rotary Club of Almere
Weerwater, in The Netherlands and our local
Rotary Club of Maldon. The members were
M/s Inez de Rooij who is their club International
Chairperson, accompanied by their President Ger
Bakker. They visited the club to discuss aspects
of the forthcoming Maldon Mud Race, together
with renewing old friendships. Almere Weerwater
have a number of entrants
for this year’s race and if the
weather even approaches
last year’s, we are in for
an enjoyable event from
which our Charities should
benefi t greatly. The Club
also presented Ger Baaker with a painting of The
Mud Race - painted by a member, Rotarian Eddie
Foster from St Lawrence.
Three Rotarians, Rtn Brian Olley of The Rotary
Club of Witham with President Tony Newton and
Rtn Alan Higgs of The Rotary Club of Maldon,
were pleased to present
(on behalf of The Friends
of St Peter’s) a coffee
maker and radio for staff
and patients of the ARU
Unit in St Peter’s. Photo
On 20th March, representatives of 3 charities
were invited to our meeting at The Queens Head,
with each being presented with
a cheque for £1000 for their
organisation. They expressed
their gratitude and explained
how these sums would be put to
use. Photo - Left: Grant Peters of
m.deli in Wenlock Way (off of the High
for Helen week. From
1st to 7th April, m.deli
will donate 40p to the
charity from every drink
sold and is also holding
a raffl e for a giant
Rollason Cancer Charity
supports local people
living with cancer so
we are proud to be part of the Tea for Helen
campaign. What better incentive to come to
m.deli and enjoy a relaxing drink?”
m.deli’s qualitly Easter eggs are handmade
by Stas Chocolatier in Kent. The giant 1.2kg
chocolate egg normally sells for about £70
but raffl e tickets are available from m.deli
for only £1 a strip. The draw takes place on
7th April, so the lucky winner will be able to
enjoy their prize on Easter Day.
