LIBRARY RESOURCES<br />

LPL has books, magazines,<br />

newspapers, videos, audio cassettes, compact<br />

discs, DVDs, sheet music, encyclopedias,<br />

dictionaries, directories, information files and<br />

electronic and print reference materials.<br />

French and other language collections are<br />

also available.<br />

The <strong>London</strong> Room houses local history<br />

and genealogical resources for the city and<br />

surrounding area.<br />

Children’s resources<br />

Staff at all locations are committed to<br />

helping choose enjoyable and ageappropriate<br />

materials for children,<br />

including newborns!<br />

There are many<br />

parenting<br />

resources and<br />

<strong>programs</strong> as well.<br />

In addition, each<br />

location regularly <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

storytime sessions for<br />

babies, toddlers and 3 to 5<br />

year-olds and many other<br />

children’s <strong>programs</strong>.<br />

ONLINE COMPUTER CATALOGUE<br />

The Library’s computer catalogue is available<br />

online at www.londonpubliclibrary.ca From the<br />

“Your Library Account” area <strong>of</strong> the Library’s<br />

catalogue (http://catalogue.londonpubliclibrary.<br />

ca/patroninfo), you can renew materials, place<br />

your own holds, review the status <strong>of</strong> holds<br />

you have placed, see what materials you have<br />

borrowed and their due dates, check the amount<br />

<strong>of</strong> fines owing.<br />

ELECTRONIC MESSAGES<br />

LPL uses electronic messaging (by e-mail or by<br />

telephone), to say:<br />

• that material placed on hold has arrived at the<br />

requested location<br />

• that you have overdue materials<br />

Calls are made between 10 am and 9 pm,<br />

Monday through Saturday (except holidays).<br />

If there’s no answer, or the line is busy, the<br />

system will call back several times. It will also<br />

leave a message on an answering machine.<br />

COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS<br />

Please note: Not all locations<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer all types <strong>of</strong> workstations.<br />

Your valid <strong>London</strong> <strong>Public</strong> Library<br />

borrower’s card is needed<br />

to use or book the following<br />

workstations for up to 2<br />

hours per day, system-wide.<br />

All computers which provide<br />

access to the Internet that are<br />

located in children’s areas<br />

are filtered.<br />

Returns<br />

You may return materials to any <strong>London</strong><br />

<strong>Public</strong> Library-not just the one from which<br />

they were borrowed. Even when we’re<br />

closed, material return chutes are open<br />

for your use. We ask that fragile<br />

materials not be put through return<br />

chutes. Please check to make<br />

sure that video or CD cases are<br />

not empty!<br />

Interlibrary Loan<br />

You can borrow materials from<br />

many other library systems<br />

through the Library’s<br />

Interlibrary Loan service.<br />

Visiting Library Service<br />

Anyone unable to use standard library facilities<br />

may request home delivery by calling<br />

519-661-6444. Visiting Library Service also<br />

oversees the distribution <strong>of</strong> CNIB “Talking<br />

Books”.<br />

HOW TO GET A LIBRARY CARD -<br />

JOIN YOUR LIBRARY!<br />

Library cards are free to citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>London</strong>,<br />

and to members <strong>of</strong> county libraries in Elgin,<br />

Middlesex & Oxford, except Woodstock &<br />

Tillsonburg.<br />

Cards are issued on presentation <strong>of</strong> personal<br />

identification and pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>London</strong> or county<br />

residency, as detailed above.<br />

Non-residents may obtain a Library card for a fee<br />

<strong>of</strong> $25/year. Visitor’s cards cost $5/month, to a<br />

maximum <strong>of</strong> $25.<br />

Report loss <strong>of</strong> a Library card immediately, just as<br />

you would a credit card. The Replacement Card<br />

fee is $5 for adults and $3 for children & seniors.<br />

<strong>London</strong> <strong>Public</strong> Library has a policy <strong>of</strong> collecting late charges on overdue materials to<br />

encourage prompt return. This revenue is added to the Library’s operating budget.<br />

Overdue materials are charged on a calendar day basis, including Sunday, at all locations.<br />

(An electronic message will be left ab<strong>out</strong> overdue items 6 days after the due date.)<br />

(Zoomtext ) magnifies print and images<br />

on screen. Search the catalogue,<br />

online databases, Internet, use e-mail<br />

& Micros<strong>of</strong>t <strong>of</strong>fice s<strong>of</strong>tware. Priority<br />

<strong>of</strong> use is given to those with special<br />

access needs.<br />

and LPL, free services to anyone looking for<br />
