Shelley Sheetz joined the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Denver</strong> women’s basketball coaching staff<br />
in the summer <strong>of</strong> 2008.<br />
In her second season with <strong>Denver</strong>, she<br />
was instrumental in helping the Pioneers<br />
amass an 8- 3 overall record and a 2-6<br />
conference record.<br />
Working primarily with the guards, Sheetz<br />
helped <strong>Denver</strong> finish the season averaging<br />
62.6 points per game and 4.5 assists per<br />
game. She also helped freshman guard<br />
Emiko Smith rack up a conference-high<br />
54 assists on the year, and junior guard<br />
Britteni Rice to lead the SBC in free-throw<br />
percentage.<br />
The Pioneers finished the season shooting<br />
48.2 percent from the field, which was<br />
second best among 332 ranked NCAA DI<br />
institutions. <strong>Denver</strong> also finished ranked<br />
first in the SBC in three-point field goal<br />
percentage.<br />

Sheetz came to <strong>Denver</strong> following<br />
a three-year stint as an assistant<br />
coach with the Pepperdine<br />
women’s basketball team.<br />
She served as the scheduling<br />
and travel coordinator for the<br />
Waves along with coaching the<br />
guards, scouting opponents and<br />
recruiting.<br />
Prior to her time at Pepperdine,<br />
Sheetz served as an assistant<br />
coach at San Diego and<br />
Washington State.<br />
Along with her coaching<br />
experience, Sheetz brings<br />
collegiate All-American honors<br />
and pr<strong>of</strong>essional playing<br />
experience to the Pioneers’ staff.<br />
She graduated from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Colorado in 995 following a stellar fouryear<br />
playing career with the Buffaloes.<br />
The first Kodak All-American in CU school<br />
history, Sheetz finished her career as<br />
the all-time leader in Colorado and<br />
Big Eight Conference history with 252<br />
three-pointers made. She also finished<br />
second all-time at Colorado in points<br />
( ,755) and assists (5 4).<br />
With the Buffaloes, Sheetz was named<br />
the Big Eight Freshman <strong>of</strong> the Year in<br />
992. She earned All-Big Eight and<br />
Big Eight All-Tournament honors in<br />
her junior and senior seasons. As a<br />
senior, Sheetz helped the Buffaloes<br />
to a school-record 25-game winning<br />
streak and a perfect 14-0 finish in<br />
conference play.<br />
After Sheetz led Colorado to the Elite<br />
Eight for the second time in her career, the<br />
conference selected her as the 995 Female<br />
Athlete <strong>of</strong> the Year. Sheetz was named an<br />
All-American by Kodak, the Associated<br />
Press and the U.S. <strong>Basketball</strong> Writers<br />
Association. She was also a finalist for the<br />
Naismith Award, an award given to the<br />
top collegiate women’s basketball player<br />
in the nation.<br />
Following college, Sheetz played<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional basketball in Germany and<br />
in the American <strong>Basketball</strong> League with<br />
the Colorado Xplosion and the Portland<br />
Power.<br />
The state <strong>of</strong> Colorado honored Sheetz as<br />
its collegiate Sportswoman <strong>of</strong> the Year in<br />
993 and 995. She was also inducted into<br />
CU’s Athletic Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame in 2004.<br />
A native <strong>of</strong> Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sheetz<br />
was elected into the 997 Iowa High School<br />
Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame.<br />
