MAGNESS ARENA<br />
The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong> opened its doors to one <strong>of</strong> the finest athletic facilities in all the country on September 15, 1999. The commitment to<br />
supporting the athletics program is evident by the state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art facilities in which the teams practice and compete.<br />
Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness<br />
The 440,000-square-foot Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness serves as the fitness and recreation hub for the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong><br />
community as well as for citizens <strong>of</strong> the metropolitan area.<br />
With its timeless architecture and state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art facilities, the center is named after the <strong>University</strong>’s 6th Chancellor, Daniel L. Ritchie, in recognition<br />
<strong>of</strong> his leadership and dedication. It is the home <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>’s athletics program, which fields 17 men’s and women’s NCAA Division I teams.<br />
The Ritchie Center also is home to the world-class Coors Fitness Center, a full array <strong>of</strong> youth and adult recreation programs, and venues for civic<br />
and entertainment events.<br />
Magness Arena<br />
Magness Arena is a multi-functional, state-<strong>of</strong>-the art facility that features 7,200 seats for basketball, 6,026 seats for hockey and up to 8,000 seats<br />
for concerts. The arena is named after local cable entrepreneur Bob Magness, who donated $ 0 million toward the project. Numerous individuals,<br />
corporations and foundations contributed to the Ritchie Center, which cost approximately $75 million. Lead donors are recognized on the panels<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Williams Tower, which is located outside the west entrance to the Ritchie Center. Magness Arena saw one <strong>of</strong> its largest crowds in 2007 as the<br />
Pioneer women’s basketball team played host to Duke <strong>University</strong> ( / /07) in front <strong>of</strong> 6,635 fans.<br />
Television<br />
Magness Arena is “television ready” for the production <strong>of</strong> games. The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong> and Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain will direct and<br />
produce select Pioneer home games in 2008-09 without the use <strong>of</strong> a truck.<br />
City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong><br />
The city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong> is centrally located and has a major international airport - making it easy to travel to and from <strong>Denver</strong> to anywhere in the<br />
country in a short amount <strong>of</strong> time. <strong>Denver</strong> is home to the 18th biggest media market, including two major daily newspapers and five local television<br />
stations.<br />
