<strong>USTA</strong> NATIONAL ADULT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS<br />
Richmond 4.5 Women Reach <strong>Final</strong>s<br />
TUCSON, ARIZONA—The Richmond, Virginia<br />
women’s team, representing the <strong>USTA</strong> Mid-<br />
Atlantic Section, finished second at the Chrysler<br />
<strong>USTA</strong> League 4.5 Adult National Championships<br />
held Sept. 28-30 at the Randolph Tennis Center.<br />
The Richmond team, representing Hermitage<br />
Country Club, fell 5-0 to the Southern California<br />
team in the championship match.<br />
Earlier in the day, Richmond defeated Eastern 3-<br />
2 in the semifinals with Stephanie Green winning<br />
at No. 1 singles.<br />
Susan Hanson and Laura Lafors at No. 2 doubles,<br />
and Jill Campbell and Kimberly Harrington at<br />
No. 3 doubles each squeaked out third-set tiebreakers.<br />
They advanced this far by winning all three of<br />
their matches on Friday and Saturday, defeating<br />
teams from Intermountain, Pacific Northwest and<br />
Middle States.<br />
The team also went undefeated in league play<br />
and at the Mid-Atlantic Sectional Championships.<br />
Other team members are Kathy Girone, Lynn<br />
Snead, Pamela Luse, Cathy Donnelly, and Tracey<br />
Sheehan.<br />
Maryland 4.0 Men Place 3rd<br />
Howard County 4.0 Men: The team was captained by<br />
Steve McCoy and featured Norio Nishi, Jeffrey Britt,<br />
Tim Whittier, Steve Dustin, Ben Sandler, Sean Chen,<br />
Cristian Burkett, Rich Kent, Mark Salazar, Dan Morgan<br />
and Cliff Bernstein.<br />
TUCSON, ARIZONA—The Howard County, MD,<br />
men’s team, representing the <strong>USTA</strong> Mid-Atlantic<br />
Section, finished third at the Chrysler 4.0 <strong>USTA</strong> Adult<br />
League National Championships held at the Randolph<br />
Tennis Center.<br />
The Maryland team defeated New England in the<br />
third-place match, 3-2. Sean Chen at No. 1 singles,<br />
Steve Dustin at No. 2 singles, and Jeffrey Britt and<br />
Norio Nishi at No. 1 doubles won straight-set matches.<br />
Earlier in the day, the team fell to Pacific Northwest<br />
3-2 in the semifinals. The Mid-Atlantic team advanced<br />
by going undefeated in its flight after beating<br />
the Intermountain, Missouri Valley and Caribbean<br />
teams contested Friday and Saturday.<br />
Other team members are Michael O’Connell, Robert<br />
Meloni, Frank Ziegler, Chetan Nayak, Christopher<br />
Hilchey, Joseph Henriquez, and Richard Sieber.<br />

DC 3.5 Women Earn 3rd Place<br />
District of Columbia 3.5 Women: (L-R): Kimberly Redfearn, Deborah<br />

Flecia Colbert (Captain), Lucrecia Ledesma, Dao Phan-Vissering,<br />
Micki Harris, Julia Goldberg, and Sharon Sabasteanski.<br />
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA—The Washington, D.C., 40-Love team, representing<br />
the <strong>USTA</strong> Mid-Atlantic Section, finished third out of the nation’s<br />
top 17 teams at the Chrysler 3.5 <strong>USTA</strong> League National Championships<br />
held at the Darling Tennis Center.<br />
The squad defeated an Albany, N.Y., team 5-0 in the third-place match.<br />
Earlier in the day, an Indianapolis team topped the D.C. team 3-2 in the<br />
semifinals.<br />
The D.C. squad advanced this far by winning all four of their flight<br />
matches, defeating Intermountain, Texas, New England, and Pacific Northwest<br />
on Friday and Saturday.<br />
After finishing third in its league, the team members improved throughout<br />
the season, winning the Mid-Atlantic sectional championships with an<br />
unblemished 3-0 record.<br />
Other team members are Rebecca Walsh, Anne-Laure Attlan, Leah<br />
Jamison, Allison Merritt, Eliza Green, and co-captain Candy Miles-<br />
Crocker.<br />
