Sisters in Retirement The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk Retirement Fund is essential to providing support to our retired sisters. Forty of our sisters are retired from funded ministries, living in seven locations. Most reside at the St. Ursula Center in Blue Point where we have a full nursing staff including around-the-clock nurses aides and a nurse on staff from 7am - 7pm daily. We also have a full complement staff of cooks, maintenance and supervision. Three sisters who are in need of more advanced care, live at Maria Regina Assisted Living facility. Our philosophy of retirement is to allow sisters to be where they feel best needed and at home. Some sisters choose to stay where they have lived and worked. Many of those live at their home parishes, St. William’s the Abbot, Seaford; St. Margaret’s, Middle Village; Nativity BVM, Ozone Park; and Our Lady of Grace in Howard Beach. They remain active in a variety of volunteer ministries. With the majority of members over the age St. Ursula Center in Blue Point. of 70 we have found that the support of our active members is inadequate to provide for the care and living expenses of our older members. And this is with many of our active members working into their eighties, in such ministries as Fordham University, Divine Mercy Academy (formerly Nativity BVM) in Ozone Park, and Our Lady of Hope in Middle Village. Our other sources of income are also insufficient. Benefits from social security are a third of what the average U.S. beneficiary receives and averages just under $5,000 per year. These cost include healthcare, medical supplies, nursing staff, equipment, transportation, food, utilities, property maintenance and upkeep. This is why the Retirement Fund is so essential to the support of our members. We are extremely grateful for your support of this fund. Our donor support has assisted in the cost of living and care expenses.
Sisters in Retirement Ursuline Sisters may retire but their journeys continue. They still minister to others through a ministry of prayer, volunteer services and being present to each other in the community. Sr. Anna celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
