A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BACKSWORD, SECOND<br />
QUARTER OF THE 18th CENTURY<br />
with broad blade double-edged towards the point, cut with<br />
a pair of long fullers and retaining traces of an inscription<br />
including ‘Andrea’ and ‘Farara’ on the respective faces<br />
(patinated, the edge with nicks, one very small hole), steel<br />
basket-hilt of flattened bars (one cracked), carrying an<br />
alternating arrangement of slender and square panels each<br />
pierced with hearts and rondels (quillon missing), ovoid<br />
pommel, perhaps the original, and later grip<br />

A BRITISH INFANTRY HANGER BY SAMUEL HARVEY,<br />
MID-18TH CENTURY<br />
with curved blade double-edged towards the tip, cut with a<br />
slender fuller along the back edge and stamped with a<br />
running fox inscribed ‘Harvey’ on each side (worn),<br />
stamped with the number ‘9’ beneath a crown at the forte,<br />
brass hilt of regulation type, stamped ‘Gloster M-S-B’ and<br />
‘49', and spirally moulded brass grip<br />
