THIS PAST VETERANS’ DAY, CONGREGATION AGUDAS ACHIM SALUTED<br />
THEIR MEMBERS FOR THEIR MILITARY SERVICE TO AMERICA.<br />
Active duty, retired and other military personnel who are members of <strong>Congregation</strong> <strong>Agudas</strong> <strong>Achim</strong> were honored with a special<br />
Friday night Shabbat service on Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2011. Several <strong>Agudas</strong> honorees who are either currently active<br />
duty or retired wore their uniforms, and others their Jewish War Veterans campaign hats. While their names were called by<br />
Rabbi Leonardo Bitran, each honored member rose to be recognized as their branch of service and rank were announced. After<br />
all names were mentioned, followed by a rousing chorus of applause, the veterans gathered on the bimah and were blessed.<br />
As the service concluded, the sanctuary filled with the voice of Hazzan Jeremy Lipton, accompanied by the congregation,<br />
singing America the Beautiful.<br />
Honor boards featuring photographs of the veterans were on display in the <strong>Congregation</strong> <strong>Agudas</strong> <strong>Achim</strong> rotunda for viewing<br />
by congregants. Afterwards, a special Shabbat dinner arranged and sponsored by the <strong>Congregation</strong> <strong>Agudas</strong> <strong>Achim</strong> Sisterhood<br />
was served to 150 military honorees, their families and guests. More patriotic songs and striking desserts featuring the ionic<br />
emblems of the United States Armed Forces were enjoyed by all.<br />
