Price’s Croydon
Most towns were fortunate to have a photographer
who committed local scenes and events to picture
postcards. Croydon had G.H. Price, who had shops at
62 High Street and 36 George Street, and whose fascinating
images continue to delight collectors. Full of
animation through people and transport, the postcards
are helpfully numbered and very collectable.
Croydon also had, of course, the prolific Bender &
Lewis and Batchelder Bros., whose exploits have
also had a recent airing in the
‘Semaphore T’
saga, which has
run for three
decades but
finally seems to
have reached a
conclusion. The
four postcards
shown here
provide a taste
of Price’s exciting
output.
