I am as always grateful to those who provide source material

Irene has corresponded on our behalf with our mission 

partners for decades now and we need to acknowledge the 

quiet but vital pastoral work that this involves 

(I regret that the Intentions for Porvoo Churches for 2012 was 

not available for incorporation at the time of going to press.) 

Thank you to those who have given suggestions and 

amendments to me over recent months. Maintaining 

accuracy and relevancy is always a near impossible task. 

Could I ask that you re-visit this new text again before the end 

of March 2012 and let me have any new suggestions for the 

June to September 2012 edition. I particularly need any 

unique prayer intentions carrying a specific date when a 

parish might feature - rather than in its normal rotational turn. 

The very final deadline for these thoughts would be the end of 

April so that the text can reach the Diocesan Office for 

printing and distribution early in May. They should be sent to

Eternal God, 

Giver of joy and source of all strength, 

we pray for those 

who prepare for 

the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

For the competitors 

training for the Games and their loved ones, 

for the many thousands who will support them, 

and for the Churches and others 

who are organizing special events 

and who will welcome many people from many nations. 

In a world 

where many are rejected and abused, 

we pray for a spirit 

of tolerance and acceptance, 

of humility and respect 

and for the health and safety of all. 

May we at the last be led 

towards the love of Christ

Khartoum Cathedral Celebrations: Thank God for the celebrations of 100 year 

anniversary of the founding of the original Cathedral - which was confiscated by the

the times. David Lee and David Macha represented Bradford Diocese. Pray for 

the Dean, Sylvester Thomas and for a fearless proclaiming of the Gospel. 


Pray for the youths and adults travelling this Friday to the Youth Workers’ Retreat at 

Phoebe Needles in Callaway. Give thanks for all diocesan outreach ministries, 

especially the Companions for Mission Committee, Episcopal Appalachian 

Ministries, Episcopal Relief and Development, Grace House Learning and Training 

Center, and the Millennium Development Goals Committee. Give thanks also for all 

ecumenical work and the mission of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy. 


The people of Erfurt (capital of the state of Thueringen) and for all involved in the 

government of the city and the state.

Sudan – the continuing focus: The title ‘North Sudan’ has been dropped. The area 

Bradford Diocese relates to is the same as before but now makes up the whole of 

the Republic of the new Sudan. Pray for the Government of Sudan and its plans to 

make the country ‘more devoutly Muslim’ which will put more pressure on the 

Christian Church. 


Pray for the meeting of the Trustees this Thursday. Give thanks for the ministries of 

all diocesan officers, staff, and volunteers and the Southwestern Virginia Episcopal 

Fund Board of Directors and the Trustees of the Funds of the SWV Diocese. Give 

thanks for all who work with the youth, college students, and young adults of SWV 

diocese. Pray for a safe return today to their parishes for those who participated in 

the Youth Workers’ Retreat. 


The ministries of Ruth-Elisabeth Schemmer and Andreas Eras (St Andreas), Martin 

Remus and Katherina Passolt (Gisperleben), MartinRemus is also responsible for 

Kuehhausen. 


Matt Walmsley is working with Agape based in Nottingham University and travels 

across Europe working with students.

Troubles engulfing the Diocese of Kadugli: Pray for the Diocese of Kadugli where 

military rule has been imposed in major towns and caused lots of damage and great 

suffering, with over 100,000 people fleeing (UN figure). Bishop Andudu is still in the 

USA– and does not know when it will be safe to return. There is military action both 

sides of the southern border of the new Sudan. 


Pray for God's blessing on all postulants and candidates for Holy Orders, especially 

Butch Eanes, Hilary Camblos, Mary Mackin, Joe Mitchell, Celia Lloyd, Preston 

Mitchell, Susan Peyton, Emily Lukanich, Weston Mathews, and Sarah Morris. Give 

thanks for the Commission on Ministry's dedication to discerning and supporting 

those who seek ordination.
